From Late Middle Kerasian زوْىفَ - zoef, zoepf, زوْيۏفَ - zoiuf ("myrtle"), from Early Middle Kerasian زوْيۏفَ zoyupf ("myrtle"), from Old Kerasian زوْنيۏف‍ى - zoniupe ("myrtle"), from Northern Aradeshi *zawuniupe ("myrtle"), from Aradeshi *zabunieupe ("myrtle"), from zabuni ("tender; gentle") + -eupe ("white").
