Hereditary and life peerage

Their are seven ranks of hereditary peerages: Prince (Prins/Prinsesse), Duke (Hertog/in), Marquess (Markies/zin), Count (Graaf/vin), Baron (Baron/es), Knight (Ridder), and Jonkheer/Jonkvrouwe. Atmoran citizens who distinguished themselves in business, politics, science, arts, sports, etc., along with long meritious service to the Crown, are eligible for nobility or noble titles. According to article 119 of the Atmoran constitution, the monarch of Atmora may ennoble individuals. Titles conferred by the Monarch are inherited through absolute primogeniture ever since the Noble Succession Act of 1898 (Wet op de adellijke erfopvolging). The Federal Princes under article 119 may also confer titles of nobility to Atmoran citizens.

Through letters patent (Patentbrief), the monarch may either give hereditary or life ennoblement, which is then co-signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs. When granted a letters patent, the ennobled person must consult with the High Council of Nobility (Hoge Raad van Adel) for approval for coat of arms and a motto. After being granted their arms by the High Council, it is then sent to the Minister of the Interior for the final signature. Much like hereditary titles, the titles granted for life are not able to pass down their titles.
