The 1986 Carrelian general election was held on Thursday, 10 April 1986. It was the first election in Carrelie after the Yellow and Blue Revolution, and its first democratic election since 1938 Carrelian general election. 400 members were elected to the newly-formed Constitutional Convention, which was intended to draft a new constitution and appoint a democratic government.

The centre-left to left-wing Socialist Unity Party emerged as the largest party, though with less than a quarter of seats in the executive and only 8 seats ahead of its main opposition, the conservative Democratic Alliance. The turnout to the election was very low, with only 44.2% of those eligible voting in the election. Because of this low turnout, the convention was barred from drafting a new constitution and simply re-instituted the Constitution of 1924.

Ultimately, the Socialist Unity Party formed a coalition government with the Popular Front, Communist Party, Christian Social Party, and the Carrelian Freedom Coalition under Captain-regent Gideon Haavisto.
