Kerasian

Etymology

From Late Middle Kerasian ܕܓܝܿܬܦܐܼܪ - jetpąr, from Early Middle Kerasian ܕܓܐܝܬܝܿܦܐܼܪ - jaitepąr, ܕܓܐܝܬܐܦܐܼܪ - jaitapąr, ܕܓܐܝܬܐܿܐܦܐܼܪ - jaitæapąr, ܕܓܐܝܬܐܿܐܼܦܐܼܪ - jaitæąpąr, from Old Kerasian ܓܝ݇ܬܐܼܦܐܼܪ - gītąpąr, from North Aradeshi gistopąr, ġistopąr, yistopąr, from Aradeshi gištupuaru ("cypress"), borrowed from Woshun gištupuaru ("cypress"), from gištuppu ("plaque; flat surface") + aru ("leaf"). Borrowed by Anglish as jeppar.

Usage notes

For the above Latin-script transliterations, ⟨ą⟩ represents the open back unrounded vowel /ɑ/. ⟨š⟩ represents the voiceless post-alveolar fricative /ʃ/.
