Koross is Tevitheim's largest city by area and population. With a city proper population of 7.2 million and a metro population of 12.1 million, it is the highest population within city limits of any city in Tevitheim. Koross is an independent city, given considerable autonomy by both the Tevitheimer and Gulkystheimer government. It is located in the southeast of the country, along the east coast of Tevitheim. Its metropolitan economy is the largest in Tevitheim, with a GDP of 938.8 billion in 2022.
Koross was founded by Tronder settlers in 1605, though it would not be formally incorporated until 1737. The city was named after the native Kariss tribe, which eventually morphed into its modern name of Koross by around 1655. During Tevitheim's eventual independence, Koross was the site of several key protests and movements which would lead Trondheim into granting Tevitheim considerable autonomy over the nineteenth century. The city played an important role as a port, manufacturing hub, and center for education and culture. It expanded beyond its original borders by filling in coast line and annexing neighboring towns. Koross was touted as a potential capital for Tevitheim, though Alna would eventually be chosen. During the Third Great War, the Tevitheimer government made plans to move from Alna to Koross, though these plans were never implemented.
Koross has emerged as global leader in higher education and research. Home to seven of Tevitheim's top 100 universities, the city is a national and international leader in scientific research, law, medicine, engineering, and finance. Despite its status as one of the most expensive cities in the world, Koross ranks highly in sustainability, living standards, and income. Due to its cultural and economic influence, Koross has been called "the heart of Tevitheim", a contrast to Alna's nickname of the "brain of Tevitheim".
