<ref name=Note01>The Ontario Lakers and Montreal Blues opted to schedule a game against each other to decide the Ontario Governors Cup, the previous trophy of the Ontario Football League, the two had been a member of. The two teams had planned to hold an unofficial championship for the trophy, since the trophy had been returned in 1922. The game had been considered a championship game for the cup, although it was technically part of the regular season. The Blues who had the better record entering the game lost the game, and thus the Ontario Governors Cup, however they considered themselves the NCFL champions, having defeated the Lakers in a previous September 19th contest 21-16, while they had only lost 13-12. Stating that the margin of victory was bigger in their victory over the Lakers. Problems regarding a previously abandoned game between the Blues and Fighting Boers was the point of contention, as fan interference during the game had resulted in the Blues being unable to score additional points in an eventual 30-0 blowout of the Boers, as the game was cancelled in the third quarter. The Blues argued that point differentials should be ignored due to the interference, and eventual cancellation, however the league opted to make no exceptions and granted the Lakers the victory. In protest the Montreal Blues did not play the following season. In 1991 the case was brought to a vote on regards of reopening with the Quebec Lumieres being the sole in favor vote.</ref> | |||
