Regional legislatures are responsible for the oversight of their own regional budgets, taxation, and control local services such as education, healthcare, waste management, water, and electricity. Each regional legislature is directly elected. The number of delegates in each is proportional to the population of that region. Økylögting are elected every five years.
Regional legislatures debate issues within the scope of their control. Decisions on these matters are voted on and if a proposal achieves a 2/3 majority it then follows on to stage two of the law making process which involves scrutiny by a regional committee made up of members from the legislature for final checks before becoming law. These commitee members are selected after elections to the legislature every five years.
It is worth bearing in mind that the national parliament the [[Hymerinting]] has complete oversight of regional legislatures and holds the ability to intervene in their matters if they are deemed to threaten the Byeansk constitution. The [[Hymerinting]] can in extreme cases suspend regional legislatures on these grounds but it does not have the right to dissolve them outright. The Hymerinting can also veto laws in each of the Økyslögting but only if they likewise threaten the constitution or go over the reach of their regional powers.

Byennordvest is a decentralised unitary state with two levels of local government. Byennordvest is divided into five regions which are heavily interwoven in the history and culture of the nation. The regions of Byennordvest have gradually gained more autonomy over local affairs since the Byeansk Republic was founded in the aftermath of the Byeansk Civil War of the late 18th century. However, it was not until the new constitution and restoration of the Monarchy of Byennordvest in 1884 that the regions had any significant form of self government.
