Hegoak was a classic liberal and libertarian political party in Brilliania. As the successor of the Republic Society, it was highly influential in shaping the Brillian parliamentary democracy and eventually also of the end of the Brillian monarchy. In its current form, the party supports private enterprises and a free-market economy. The party also operates 49 csoko's and speakeasies, giving the party its nickname of "Party of Cooks". On 24 November 2019, Nation Without Arrogance, a party consisting of 21 former members of Our Homeand, merged into Hegoak. The party was de facto dissolved on 13 February 2020 to form Forward Brilliania, but the new party is the legal successor of Hegoak.

Founding

The Republic Society was founded in 1865 by the Group of Twelve as a debate club. The party organised in the Hamabi Bat (Twelve as One) csoko in Martirien Herria, which still is the party headquarters.

Ten Demands to King Ilurdo

On 6 November 1888, Artze Bidecurucio nailed a paper with ten demands to the entrance of the Royal Palace. The declarations were:

  • Abdication of the king
  • Founding of a national parliament
  • Free elections with full adult suffrage
  • Election of a Constitutional Drafting
  • Female emancipation
  • Abolition of exile as punishment
  • Abolition of the death penalty
  • Abolition of forced labour
  • Granting amnesty to the 9 republicans arrested for the death of Princess Garbine
  • End to the suppression of the Iparinan language

The refusal of the demands caused massive social unrest, resulting in a partial acceptance of the Declarations. Ilurdo accepted the foundation of a national parliament and a new constitution, additionally compromised for the introduction of a crowned republic, but refused to act regarding the other points. The Republicans and the King signed the Agreement of the Palace on 7 July 1889, which caused the start of a constitutional draft which eventually resulted in the First Constitution of the Crowned Republic.

Early parliamentary history

Renaming

In 2011, the Republic Society's internal parliament agreed 59-1 to rename the party. In further votes, the name Hegoak (Wings) won with the other options being Pensua and Libertarian Party. The party also adopted the famous dolu kantu "Biszi szure modua" by Saroi Musaurieta as the official party anthem, for which permission was granted by his son Tirteo. Most notably, Tirteo is an active member of Hegoak and was elected by preference votes to the National Assembly in the 2019 election as the list pusher.

The party increased its seat total to 41 after the election in March 2019.

December 2019 election

Prior to the December 2019 election, the party had 62 seats prior to the dissolution of parliament. The party recieved 44 seats and was the largest opposition party. Template:Brillian political parties
