The Vengeance is known for its idiosyncratic propulsion scheme, being one of the first Arthuristan surface warships incorporating steam power to be laid down in decades. Admiralty planners initially intended a design which would incorporate the latest in emergent technology, including {{wp|integrated electric propulsion}} and {{wp|EMALS}} catapults. Given their costs and unknown viability, a far more conservative solution, involving the use of a combined diesel and gas propulsion scheme, as well as a pair of auxiliary boilers to power the catapults, was proposed. Finally, it was decided to drop the diesel engines, and integrate the steam plant directly into the ship's propulsion scheme with the addition of steam turbines.
