The Type 45 Durham-class destroyer is a class of twenty-six guided missile destroyers built for the Royal Emmerian Navy, Republic of Clavis Navy and Royal North Point Navy. The class is primarily designed for anti-aircraft and anti-missile warfare and is built around the Sentinel (Sea Viper) air-defense system utilizing the SAMPSON AESA and S1850M long-range radar. The Type 45 destroyers were built to replace the Type 42 (Sherwood class) destroyers that had served during the Aurelian and Continental Wars, with the last Type 42 being decommissioned in 2008.
Twenty-three destroyers were built by FAe Systems Maritime - Naval Ships and Harrow Shipbuilders in Emmeria, with four of them exported to West Clavis. The other three destroyers were built at Garrick Iron Works in North Point under license. The first ship in the Durham-class, HMS Durham, was launched on 1 February 2001 and commissioned on 23 July 2003.
