A Brigade Group (BG) is a the smallest permanently deployable unit of manœuvre in the Glasic Army.

It generally refers to a formation which includes three or four battle-groups, or an infantry brigade (three battalions), supported by armoured, artillery, field engineer, aviation and support units, and amounting to between 4,000 and 5,000 soldiers. A Brigade Group represents the smallest unit able to operate independently for extended periods on the battlefield. It is similar in concept to a regimental combat team (RCT)

The Brigade Group is normally commanded by a Brigadier (OF-7). A Brigade Group contains combat support and combat service support units necessary to sustain its operations away from its parent division. BGs contain organic artillery support, formerly received from the parent division's artillery (DIVARTY).

Currently, the Glasic Army operates with the Brigade Group as its core unit of manœuvre. Under a program of reorganisation and rationalisation divisions that previously had not deployed individual brigades due to a lack of organic support were restructured. All of the Glasic Army's active divisions now have the ability to deploy one or more BGs anywhere in the world as required. These BGs are intended to be able to be standalone formations, like a division in miniature, soldiers assigned to a BG are assigned for a minimum five years; this is intended to breed an esprit de corps within the unit and improve readiness.

Light Brigade Group

The Light Brigade Group, as of 2019, contains around 4,500 personnel and is organised around a regiment of three infantry battalions. Each Light Brigade Group has the same basic organisation and therefore is capable of air assault operations, whether or not it is officially designated as such. Of note, these units currently manœuvre in Toyota Land Cruisers while deployed, operating as "motorised infantry" to facilitate speed of movement. From 2020 the four active force groups will begin to operate in protected mobility vehicles, becoming 'light' mechanised units.

As of 2020 the Light Brigade Group in total consists of seven battalion sized units: one cavalry, one support, one engineer, three infantry and one artillery.

Mechanised Brigade Group

The Mechanised Brigade Group (MBG) is a protected mobility force structured around the AMV eight-wheeled armoured fighting vehicle. A complete Mechanised Brigade Group was originally intended to be air-transportable into theatre within 96 hours compared with the 120 hours of a division-sized force. In practice however this has not been the case and is no longer deemed to be relevant to the employment of the unit. The Mechanised Brigade Group is intended to fill a gap between light-role and armoured infantry, suitable for most operations.

The Mechanised Brigade Group, as of 2019, contains around 4,760 personnel and is organised around a regiment of three infantry battalions. A Mechanised Brigade Group has a vehicular complement of over 300 AMVs in variety of different variants.

Armoured Brigade Group

The Armoured Brigade Group (ABG) is the Glasic Army's primary armoured unit of action, they are designed around three combined arms battalions containing both Leopard 2 main battle tanks (MBTs) and CV90 infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs). Other vehicles, such as Land Cruisers and Thor multi-role platforms operate in combat-support and support roles.

An Armoured Brigade Group consists of seven battalion sized units: one cavalry, one support, one engineer, three combined arms and one artillery. As of 2019, the Armoured Brigade Group is the largest of the manœuvre groups with around between 4,900 and 5,110 soldiers. Prior to 2010 Armoured Brigade Groups were known as Heavy Brigade Groups, this terminology now applying to those ABGs with two rather than one armoured regiments in them.

An ABG has between 58 and 88 Leopard MBTs and 60 to 120 CV90 IFVs depending on its organisation as well as, WISENT 2 ARVs and various armoured and soft-skinned support vehicles.

Rebalancing and Expansion

Between 2010 and 2015 the Glasic Army underwent an extensive reorganisation, restructuring its reserve units into formations mirroring their Ready Force counterparts. The end result of this reorganisation was an increase in the number of combat-capable brigades groups to a total of 50, of which 27 are either from the Primary or Supplementary Reserve.
