This article lists Political Paries in the United Kingdom of Vionna-Frankenlisch'.

Brief history and overview

Before the 1857-62 Parliament Acts, politics in Vionna-Frankenlisch was dominated by the Whigs and the Tories. These were not political parties in the modern sense but somewhat loose alliances of interests and individuals. The Whigs included many of the leading Christian clergy and Christian-aligned aristocracy, and later drew support from elements of the emerging industrial interests and wealthy merchants, while the Tories were associated with the landed gentry, the Andyist Church and the army.

By the late 19th century, the Tories had evolved into the Conservative Party, and the Whigs had evolved into the Liberal Party. The parliament was presided over by a speaker, who handled proceedings. In 1870 the Imperial Party was formed by Aberforth Vauxhall, Viscount Vauxhall in support of the monarchy and the empire in response to beliefs that the two dominating parties were serving their own interests and a supposed conspiracy that the Liberal Party were planning to overthrow the monarchy in support of a republic. While such a conspiracy was never realised, the Imperial Party immediately gained popularity among the aristocracy and the military and the first and only Imperial government was formed in 1880 under Lord Vauxhall. In the wake of this, the Liberal Party returned to its Christian roots and managed to court the wealthy industrialists of the day into their camp. The Conservatives, under Edgar Langdown succesfully rebranded themselves as a Party that stood for the Andyist faithful and for the common people, securing members among the middle and working classes. The Imperials went into decline not long after their government was defeated by the Liberals in 1884.

The Liberals and Conservatives dominated the political scene until the 1920s, when the Liberal Party declined in popularity and suffered a long stream of resignations. It was replaced as the main anti-Tory opposition party by the newly emerging Labour Party, which represented an alliance between the labour movement, organised trade unions and various socialist societies. It was popular amongst the younger generation, particularly in working class circles but saw mixed support among the older electorate and veterans of the Great Europan War who mainly supported the Conservatives.

Since then the Conservative and Labour parties have dominated Vionna-Frankenlischian politics, joined by the Imperials which saw a resurgance following the 1980 restoration of the monarchy. However, Vionna-Frankenlisch is not entirely a two-party (or three in this case) system as many smaller parties exist and are influential enough to dominate areas of local politics if admittedly not being as important on the national scene. The Democratic Liberal Party holds sway in 44 seats, making it the fourth-largest party in the Commons and there are 20 seats held by parties that are independant to individual constituencies.

Parliamentary Parties

In late 2019, War measures led to the Great Electoral Decree which shook-up Parliament considerably. As a result, pre-Decree parties have been listed along with the post-Decree situation.
