Curatia (Curatian Curătia), formally the Republic Of Curatia (Curatian Republica Curătia) is a sovereign state in Eastern Asura bordered by Brilliania to the west, Dreyvisevich to the south, and Gaussland-Nulvia to the north. The country is divided into 54 provinces, with ranging levels of autonomy. It's capital is the metropolis of Prestoras. It is a federal semi-presidential republic with a population of 13 Million inhabitants. It's ethnic makeup includes the vast majority, Curatians, as well as a slew of minorities including the largest one, Transgurethians.

Etymology

The name "Curatia" originated from the endonym, Curătia. The name stems from an early-medieval era nation that existed named Corăt. The country was named after it's founder's tribe, the Corăteja. The tribal name's origin, much like the tribe itself, is relatively unknown.

A few ideas have risen up that Corateja is an ancient name for Mount Incorai, a hill north of Kuzka. Other ideas say it comes from the Vurg word Cuuraja, mean "Lovers of the Moon", in reference to local religious groups. Other say it's from Fiorentine "Cor", meaning heart.

History

Pre-History

The first known sign of humanity in Curatia were the Inaypwe Skulls in modern-day Kazuk, near the city of Zopaw, dating back nearly circa 20,000 years ago. The first sign of civilization began with what was known in Curatia as the Vunli Culture, whose remains date back to 7000 BC. The Vunli Culture existed throughout the Acofine River Valley, where they would learn agricultural techniques gained from the arriving second culture, the Zazkoew-Lipeh Culture. They, by contrast to the Vunli, developed in the Gurethian mountains and upper Griflux River. The Zazkeow-Lipeh were believed to be migrants from the south, and had gained agriculture and other neolithic developments.

In 1100 BC, the first signs of the Clovans as arisen. Most archaeologists believe that the Clova were the final first Catai-Asuran culture to exist in Curatia. The Clova were the first civilization in Curatia to build cities. The Clovans build cities such as Anama, Rase, and the still-existent city of Pasicloz. The Clova grew greatly under the rule of Adrachtes, the first king Of Clova. According to the Rainos Stone, Adrachtes had met with ancient rulers of other Empires, namely the (TBD) and the (TBD).

After freedom from the ASU had been achieved after the ASU Civil War, Curatia came under the leadership of Tiberiu Todoran. Todoran's declared himself as an independent, and said that political parties would lead to corruption and feared that they would destroy the country. Todoran also cut all ties to communist nations, and turned his friendships to the west where he believed he'd find a helping hand. The President also had the highest approval rating of all of Curatia's post-ASU presidents, at 85%. Todoran, however, had some controversial things too. In 1982 he purged the government of suspected communist sympathizers and communists. He also vetoed the Transgurethian Autonomy Act, which would have granted Transgurethia an Autonomic Status as well as other minority regions. Todoran was known for being at odds with the Transgurethians in his early days. This would eventually come back to hurt him.

Other things he achieved in his early years was rebuilding the nation's struggling economy. The boom, however, was slow and the 80's was mostly rebuilding from the devastation brought on by the Battle For Curatia during the ASU civil war. Todoran would establish laws that rebuilt the broken economy and built up the soon-to-be massive manufacturing, mining, and tech industries that would soon become the center of the Curatian economy. This growth, however, was stopped in April 1988 by the beginning of the Transgurethian War.

The Transgurethian War(1988-1991) was a conflict in Transgurethia and south-east Curatia between the between Curatia and the self-declared independent State Of Transgurethia. The buildup to the war began with the rise of horastatism and nationalism in Transgurethia. Horastatism was a Transgurethian belief that they had the right to all lands south of the Gurethian mountains. Horastatist leaders such as Azanas Andrevske(leader of the TLA) and Vasyle Lorsk(leader of the KCO), would use their organizations to build up a rebellion in Transgurethia. Lorsk and Andrevske, the two main leaders, were not on the same page and the TLA and KCO would fight for dominance in the early 80's until the TLA was crushed by the Curatian government, leaving Lorsk as the sole leader of the Horastatist movement, and renamed the KCO to the KHO. Between this and 1988, riots, poverty, crime, anti-autonomy legislation, troops deployments and KHO growth had led to the balloon to burst. In April 1988 Lorsk called a meeting between all the leaders of the Transgurethian Provinces, where they declared independence from Curatia and chose Lorsk to be their leader. Todoran's government responded with a failed invasion in early April, and Curatia fell back. The war lasted almost 3 years before Curatian forces were finally able to capture Kuzka.

Provinces

Curatia is divided into 54 provinces, there are six types of Provinces under the Curatian Constitution. Type A, or the Federal Province is the only province of it's kind and contains the nation's capital, Prestoras. The Federal Province is administrated by the Federal Metropolitan Government, of which contains the Federal Metropolitan Assembly and Mayor of Prestoras. In the Federal Metropolitan Province, the Federal Government has the right to overturn any laws made by the Federal Metropolitan Government and is able to take control over the Federal Metropolitan Police at any time. Type B is the Metropolitan Province, of there are 8. Metropolitan Provinces are governed similarly to the Federal Province, except the Federal Government has no control of their laws and police. Type C, the most common type, is the National Provinces, of which there are many. They are ruled by a Governor and Provincial Congress and have a medium-level of autonomy. Type D, are known as Autonomous Provinces, commonly shortened to Auto Provinces, were established in 1991 by the Minority-Liberties Act which converted 11 Minority-populated National Provinces to Auto Provinces(today however there are only 8 Auto Provinces, the rest were reorganized into Semi-Auto Provinces). These Auto Provinces have a very high level of autonomy and are ruled by a ruler of their choice(governor/administrator/president etc), and a local congress of their choice(assembly, duma, congress etc). Then there is Type E, or the Autonomous Metropolitan Provinces, of which there are two, Kuzka and Neimo-Usa. These provinces are similar to regular Metropolitan Provinces, except their level of autonomy is greatly increased. Lastly, there are Type F provinces, established in 1998 by the Curatian-Minority Compromise Act which created the Semi-Autonomous Provinces. These Provinces are a mixture of National Provinces and Auto Provinces due to the high levels of both Minorities and Curatians. They are administrated by Governors and Provincial Congresses but their level of autonomy is greater than a National Province, but less than an Autonomous Province.
