The first inhabitants of Korova were Ad' Cane tribes that were expelled or enslaved by mainlander proto-Bayardi in roughly 3500DNE. It took until the early 800NEs for the Auburn Isles to be fully united by early Korovan/late Bayardi tribes, this effort later being broken by Zelstoviy [Andrennian] vikings in the 890NEs. Korova was then split between Kalmov, Zhurova, and assorted states including and surrounding Korovka. In the early 1500s Kalmov was integrated into the United Kingdom of Andrenne & Goyanes while Zhurova was subjugated by Ta-Meri but after UKAG's dissolution in the early 1800s Kalmov & Korovka were weak and absorbed by the growing Zhurova who had then reunified refounded the Korovan state.

Korova experienced a golden age of trade, amassing considerable power until its stagnation in the 1900s. In 2008 Prydanian Syndicalists couped the Monarchy and established a satellite republic, but later this collapsed after pressure from guerilla organisations in 2012. Soon after, the state broke apart into highly aggresive local governances alongside a national infrastructure failure. Currently, Korova is a poor but rising country that is recovering from the Korovan Anarchy that followed the Syndicalist regime, having been notably described as the world's most violent country by IBC News. Tiran Arthur Tatarov is leading this effort as an interim dictator for three years with support from Norveskiy, Severnye Ostrova, and other countries partaking in the LinkYellowtail rehabilitation effort.

The first inhabitants of what became Korova were various societies of Ad' Cane who thrived in primarily cave-dwelling communities and existed somewhat ahead of human technological development. This lasted until the appearance of the ancestors to the Louha people, a Vaniriy people who migrated to the northwestern coast from an undetermined direction in approximately 5000DNE, where both societies engaged in amicable syncretisation. In several areas, the two groups are known to have lived alongside eachother in joint communities and the Loukhskiy religion became increasingly influenced by that of the Ad' Cane's. In the 3500DNEs Bayardiy Shlavs had begun to migrate onto Novaya's east coast from northern Korozemlya. Violence was common between the new and old societies of Novaya and this eventually culminated in the Bayardiy dominating the island culturally and ethnically, leaving only the Papinsaari islands uncolonised.

Korova is a part of the Craviter Economic Association, the Bergum Pact, the Luscova Pact, and is the founder of the Association of Szlavic Nation.

In the early 1st century, colonists from Norvesk began to found settlements on the Pyasiniy Coast of western Novaya and the colony, called Nový, was an autonomous subject of the mainland Norveskiy state. Despite initial opposition from the existing Shlavich tribes, they were successfully norvified and cities such as Těšany, near modern Tura, and Rašov, a predecessor to Korovka, rivalled the already entrenched Shlavich tribes. At their furthest extent, the colonies reached from modern Zhizny, to the Tarkhov Range, to the River Yurga. In the 5th century the Norveskiy state collapsed, rendering the cities of the colony independent polities which in practice only cemented their increasing autonomy from Norvesk. For the next three centuries the Pyasinan Coast would be the hub of intellectualism and the wealthiest part of Korova, bolstered by the local naval culture and democratic thought. However, the late 8th century brought the rise of the Buzhan tribe which had been successfully uniting the Korovan inlands and raiding the outlying territories of the Norveskiy cities, increasing economic and security pressure amongst the cities.

The first act of armed conflict between the Buzhan tribe and the Norveskiy cities was the seizure of the cities encompassing modern Merya and Pomorye, the most important of which being Strhaře that was home to the island's largest iron mines. After three decades of conquest and internal strife within the Norveskiy colonies exacerbating the conquests, the Buzhan conquest of Novaya reached its conclusion with the siege of Těšany, the last Norveskiy city on Novaya, that ended in a violent and symbolic razing of the city down to its foundation. As a result, the Kingdom of Koro' was proclaimed by Aleksandr Votoynsky which marked the birth of the first Korovan state and its capital would be Korovka, built on top of Rašov.
However, Koro' was a shortlived Kingdom due to the violent migration of Zelstoviy Vikings from Kheorot to Northern Korozemlya in the early 9th century. Having already supplanted the Bayardiy of Pridansk, a number of vikings led by Halfand Kalmov turned towards the northern regions of Novaya where populations were relatively sparse, and the defensive capabilities were lesser than that of the Novayan Inland and Pyasinan Coast. The fallout of this new migration was the dissolution of the state only two decades of it formed, with the prior death of Aleksandr Vorotynsky and the loss of such a large swathe of territory the central authority had diminished so much so as to begin splintering.

While Koro' itself was short lived, it layed the foundations of the many states that succeeded it. In the north, known as Kalmov by this point, the duchies of Bakhta, Penza, and Tuvosk inhabited the mountain valleys while the Pyasinan Coast was yet again home to assorted city-states which laid claim to the prestige that the cities of Nový had. The lands following the fertile Tamyara river valley were largely united under the Kurskov principality however, with the states of Merya and Psokopets-Kostroma left independent. These borders were largely defined in the Convent of Saakadzovka in 854, an assembly of every major tribe and lord in the former Koro' land to prevent the outbreak of war which was deemed to be too high of a risk with the northern Kalmoviy, who were known for their martial culture, now present on the island. The genocidal aggression towards the prior-Bayardiy Principality of Mstiszlav from Bakhta had previously shown the Convent's concerns valid, and the uneasy association successfully prevented further direct conflift with the Kalmoviy.

In the late 10th century, the city of Korovka, an independent city-state since the Convent, fell into civil disarray as the Torgovtsy burgher-class triggered the Seven-Hour Rebellion in response to repeated failures by the Knjaz to satisfy the demands of the city guilds.

Etymology
Etymology
The name Korova is derived from Koro', also known as Korov, the name of original united Korova in the 800NEs ruled by Aleksandr Vorotynsky I and populated by Late Bayardi tribes. Some time after the viking formation of Kalmov, Koro' was appropriated as a wider name for the entire Auburn Isles and even supplanted 'Auburn Isles' as the common name for the geographic region until the modern era.
The name Korova is ultimately derived from the term Koro', which refers to the early medieval state founded by the Vorotynsky conquerors. The formation of Koro' was the first time the Southern Auburn Isles had been united as one state, and also resulted in the expulsion of many Norveskiy and Louhiy, which together resulted in the standardisation of the island's lexicon and thus the spread of the term. It is believed that Koro' itself originates from the Korovan word for cow, 'korav', which is likely due to both the high populations of Korovan Cows in central Novaya and the semantic associations of cows, that being characteristics such as valour, magnamity, and bravery.

Around the time of the Durnovo Usurpers of Zhurova, in 1271, Koro' began to widely be referred to as Korova. This is because the old Koro' capital of Korovka had grown in prominence through the formation of the Ganzeyskiy Soyuz causing 'Korovka' to become the standard name of the area to foreign merchants due to the following economic boom. The name Korova spread slower on the Auburn Isles itself but soon caught on during contention between Kalmov and Zhurova over the southern Korovka areas. Later the second K was dropped to differantiate the city from the isles when Zhurova unified them in the 1800s.
The development of the -ova/-va suffix of the name 'Korova' has been harder to discern however. There are two primary theories as to its development. Some researchers, such as Korovologist Dmitry Makarov, believe that the -ova suffix is both a shortening and corruption of the word 'oblast', or 'region' in Torogvetsiy. It is suggested that the term would have been colloquially shortened to 'oba' and later corrupted into 'ova' which would then become merged with the older 'Koro' term.
In opposition, others theorise that the suffix originates from the city of Korovka, a city built for the purpose of being Koro's capital that later became its own republic after the nation's collapse. As the Republic of Korovka gained international influence during the middle and later medieval period, some communities and cultures would begin to only know the area of the Korovan states by the term Korovka. It is believed that overtime the k of the -ovka suffix was dropped as a result of language corruption or intentionally as a way of differentaiating Korovka from the concept of Korova.

The standard way to refer to a citizen of Korova is as a "Korovan".
The standard way of referring to a citizen of Korova is 'Korovan' or 'Koroviy'.

Prehistoric Korova
In roughly 6,700DNE, Novaya was one of the centers of bronze age development with the earliest recorded indigenous Ad' Cane civilization of the Kanestvo [AC Kingdom] of Çèkii-sáhwíi near present-day Suzdal. It is thought to have gradually built what fortune it had through trade with Ad' Cane in present-day Severnye Ostrova and the Auburn Channel coast, as well as with humans further along the coast.
The earliest evidence of humanoid neolithic society on Novaya is dated to approxiamtely 17,500DNE around which Ad' Cane neolithic societies began to arise across the island. Archeological finds, primarily stone carvings, indicate that the neolithic Ad' Cane had adopted agricultural grain-grinding culture that created pottery, farmed, and herded having transitioned to a sedentary lifestyle.

The oldest confirmed, continuously-inhabited settlement of the neolthic Ad' Cane is located at the Ceki-Sawi Caves in modern southern Pomorye, dated to 14,000DNE. Cave dwelling was a common practice among the Ad' Cane of southern Novaya, being seperately identified by the name Sawi-Cane, and the Ceki-Sawi caves specifically show signs of being inhabited until approximately 8500DNE. Cave-dwellings are believed to have been utilised by the Sawi-Cane out of convenience, southern Novaya is home to an unusually high amount of caves that would've been appropriate sizes for the small community units of early Ad' Cane society. As well as this, later Ad' Cane mythology suggests that cave-dwelling might have had some level of religious significance to some of the population, being viewed as living closer to nature.

Alongside this, the Ceki-Sawi cave site also houses a well-preserved example of Sawi-Cane terracing and irrigation. This form of terracing was the first developed in Novaya and was typically build onto the hills that many Sawi-Cane cave-dwellings are located. However the introduction of terraced agriculture was spread and highly integral to the development of the northern Vesu-Cane in modern Kalmov who otherwise would've remained a coastal culture.

Geography
Geography
Korova has no land borders as it is surrounded by the Auburn Channel and Pale Sea. Korova's geopolitical role stems from the location at the northern edge of Korozemlya which has historically been the first and most accessible mainland port of Korozemlya for the northern ship routes with Avrokheyviya, the Second Unification Boom can be attributed to this. The strait created by the peninsula also allows for tolling for access between the two halves of the Auburn Channel.
Korova has no land borders as it is surrounded by the Auburn Sea to the southwest, the Pale Sea to the northwest, and the White Sea to the east. The nation consists of five primary islands named Novaya, Gavan', and the Papinsaari island chain; consisting of Tytarsaari, Kaunisaari, and Majasaari from south-to-north.
Aside from extensive coastlines, the majority of Korova's landscape consists of river valleys and grassland plains. Korova, and notably the historic Principality of Zhurova, has long benefited from this for agricultural purposes having the lowest recorded number of famines of all North Korozemlya states despite the country's famously harsh winters.

Northwestern Korova, the historic Kalmov territories, are dominated by two mountain chains. The northern one is known as the Kodar Range while the southern one is known as the Ilmensky Range, which also includes Korova's tallest point Mt. Opala. The range has historically been a defensive bulwark for Kalmov but is nowadays a rising skiing and alpine resort location during the longer-than-average Korovan winters.

Northwestern Korova, primarily the Kalmov cultural nation, is dominated by four mountain ranges. From northwest to southeast they are known as: the Lobno Range, the Kodar Range, the Ilmensky Range, and Mt. Opala. Mt. Opala can be denoted as the nation's highest peak, at 2970m in height. These ranges have historically been a defensive bulwark for Kalmov but are nowadays a rising skiing and alpine resort location during the longer-than-average Korovan winters. There is also the lower-lying Tarkhov Range in southern Korova which seperates the cultural nations of Korovka and Krivich.

Korova has a temperate climate, characterised by strong winters, with mean temperatures in February of -24.7 °C (-12.46 °F), and cool summers, with a mean temperature in August of 17.2 °C (63.0 °F). The most extreme temperatures recorded in Korova, since 1874 when recordings began, was 36.4 °C (97.5 °F) in 1975 and -47.3 °C (-53.14 °F) in 1982. Korova has an average of 179 days per year with precipitation, on average receiving a total of 765 millimetres (30 in) per year; autumn is the wettest season and spring the driest. The position between a continent and an ocean means that the weather is often unstable.

Respublika Korovy, commonly called Korova, is a parliamentary democracy in Northeast Korozemlya. It is bordered on the northeast by the Zem Bledno, on the south-west by Norvesk, and the west by Pridansk. Korova covers 190,728 square kilometers and has an estimated population of 19,189,200. Korova comprises of 26 subdivisions with its capital in Korovka on the country's largest island, Novaya. A country of towering highlands, fertile river valleys, and rolling plains, Korova is home to a diverse range of ethnicities and cultures, including Novayans, Kalmovites, Bayardiy, Ad' Cane, Yeizhka, and Loukhskiy. Religious groups include Lorentiy, Kurantiy, Bayardiy Pagans, Taunskiy, Ad' Cane Revivalists, Borzeyskiy Pagans, and Atheists. Korovans and Kalmovites are the largest ethnic groups, while Laurentists are the largest religious group.

(wip)

Currently, Korova is a poor but rising country that is recovering from the Korovan Anarchy that followed the Syndicalist regime, having been notably described as the world's most violent country by IBC News. Tiran Arthur Tatarov is leading this effort as an interim dictator for three years with support from Norvesk, Zem Bledno, and other countries partaking in the Yellowtail rehabilitation effort.

Korova is a part of the Craviter Economic Association, the Bergum Pact, the Luscova Pact, and is the founder of the Association of Shlavich Nation.

Etymology

The standard way of referring to a citizen of Korova is 'Korovan' or 'Koroviy'.

History

Prehistoric Korova

The earliest evidence of humanoid neolithic society on Novaya is dated to approxiamtely 17,500DNE around which Ad' Cane neolithic societies began to arise across the island. Archeological finds, primarily stone carvings, indicate that the neolithic Ad' Cane had adopted agricultural grain-grinding culture that created pottery, farmed, and herded having transitioned to a sedentary lifestyle.

An example of a Sawi-Cane cave dwelling.

Geography

Korova has no land borders as it is surrounded by the Auburn Sea to the southwest, the Pale Sea to the northwest, and the White Sea to the east. The nation consists of five primary islands named Novaya, Gavan', and the Papinsaari island chain; consisting of Tytarsaari, Kaunisaari, and Majasaari from south-to-north.

A topographical map of the Southern Auburn Isles

Korova's geopolitical role stems from the location at the northern edge of Korozemlya which has historically been the first and most accessible mainland port of Korozemlya for the northern ship routes with Avrokheyviya, the Second Unification Boom can be attributed to this. The strait created by the peninsula also allows for tolling for access between the two halves of the Auburn Sea. Aside from extensive coastlines, the majority of Korova's landscape consists of river valleys and grassland plains. Korova, and notably the historic Principality of Krivich, has long benefited from this for agricultural purposes having the lowest recorded number of famines of all North Korozemlya states despite the country's famously harsh winters.

Climate

Korova has a temperate climate, characterised by strong winters, with mean temperatures in February of -9.6 °C (14.7 °F), and cool summers, with a mean temperature in August of 12.5 °C (54.5 °F). The most extreme temperatures recorded in Korova, since 1874 when recordings began, was 36.4 °C (97.5 °F) in 1975 and -47.3 °C (-53.14 °F) in 1982. Korova has an average of 179 days per year with precipitation, on average receiving a total of 766 millimetres (30 in) per year; autumn is the wettest season and spring the driest. The position between a continent and an ocean means that the weather is often unstable.

Because of Korova's northern location, there are large seasonal variations in daylight. There are short days during the winter with sunrise coming around 8:45 am and sunset 3:45 pm , as well as long summer days with sunrise at 4:30 am and sunset at 10 pm.

Snow cover usually lasts from early-December to March, being deepest in the north of Novaya and the Papinsaari Islands.
