LB Nuálach was an early aircraft carrier of the Royal Ossorian Navy. She was converted from an ocean liner that was under construction when the Fourth Arzell War began and became the first example of the standard pattern of aircraft carrier, with a full-length flight deck that allowed wheeled aircraft to take off and land. Nuálach participated in comparative trials alongside the carriers Úrnua and Spreagtha to determine the optimum layout for aircraft carriers going forward, helping to influence RON design trends for the new type through the modern day.
Design
General characteristics
Nuálach had an overall length of 172 m, a beam of 21 m, and a draught of 7 m. She displaced 14,700 t at standard load. Each of the ship's four sets of geared steam turbines drove one 3-bladed propeller and were powered by 12 small-tube boilers and were rated at 20,000 shaft horsepower. This gave Nuálach a speed of approximately 20 knots. She had a range of 3,600 nautical miles at 10 knots.
Flight deck and hangar
The ship's flight deck was 167 m long and her hangar was 167 m long and 21 m wide. Its minimum height was 5 m. The forward lift was 9 m × 11 m and the aft lift was 18 m × 6 m. Two large cranes were positioned on the quarterdeck, beneath the rear of the flight deck. The ship's aircraft capacity was 25 aircraft standard. The ship's crew totaled 495 officers and ratings.
Armament
For self-defense against enemy warships, Nuálach had six 100 mm guns, three on each side of the ship, and with each gun being allocated 200 rounds.
