The film series is about the life of the teenager Alex Bosch and his everyday life at school. Alex is new to the Albrecht Neumann Regular School (''Albrecht-Neumann-Regelschule'') at the beginning of the first film. While the first film is set in 1984, the rest of the film takes place sometime in the late 1980s with no real year marking.
