Simone Kalpita (born 6 July 1980) is a Tennaiite actress and film and television director. She is best known for potraying Lucy Nova in the film Shriya Eats Daal.

Early life

Kalpita was born in Pandimalai to a Tennaiite mother (Kalpita Revati) and a French Gylian father (Thibaut Batteux). She has a younger sister named Neha and an older brother named Thierry. She spent her early years in Pandimalai. Between the ages of 7 and 10 she lived in three different countries and attended schools in each one.

At the age of 13 she was living in Gylias and acting in television. At the age of 15 Kalpita graduated from secondary school in Gylias and a year later, at the age of 16, she was attending the Pandimalai Technical College.

After finishing her studies at the age of twenty, she relocated to Hampi and split her time between working for the Hampi Department of Hydrology and trying out for and performing in various stage performances.

After graduating from Pandimalai Technical College, Kalpita worked as a hydrology engineer and would audition for stage plays and television advertisements. Her first major stage role was in a local production of Kavipriya Puvaneswary's play Sera in 2003. Her breakthrough in television advertisement came with an ad campaign for KMT cellular phones in 2005.

Simone continued to audition for stage roles and in 2007 she was seen by a talent scout from Sensual Nova's television division and was offered the role of Jenini in the television series At the Controller. The character of Jenini was meant to be short-lived and appear in a three episode block of the first season, but her performance so endeared her to fans and the showrunner, that Kalpita's character was transitioned to a permanent role as part of the central cast. At the end of At the Controller's first season, Kalpita was nominated for several awards.

After At the Controllers third and final season finished filming in 2009, she was approached by director Kanan Nakndika for the role of Lucy Nova in the film Shriya Eats Daal. Simone's performance in the film garnered her a Best Supporting Lead nomination and win at the 2010 Film Guild Honor Awards. Since 2010, Kalpita has made appearances in several television shows and films and has notably starred as the lead in the series Twin Daggers since 2015. Notable films Kalpita has appeared in include Uprated, Cham Cham Cham, and Journey of a Dyed Blonde Goof.

In 2019, Simone made her directorial debut with the film Melon Heads which recieved generally positive reviews.
