==Authorizing law==
The College of Praetors was first constituted during the reign of [[Maria III of Latium|Empress Maria III Tullia]] as an advisory gathering of minor magistrates not authorized to meet with the [[Sacred Assembly]]. Upon the ascension of [[Theophylactus I Augustus|Emperor Theophylactus I Anicius]], in 1846, the College was organized into its modern form, similarly to the committee of executive magistrates created by Theophylactus when he served as [[Count of the East]] as heir apparent.


The College is authorized by the 1846 Edict of Leonopolis (#01846-04), and saw the inclusion of Master of Offices, Count of Petitions, Master of Soldiers, Count of the Sacred Largesses, Aedile, and the creation of the Foreign Praetor, Trade, and Agriculture. The consul was added to the college in 1848. The authorizing edict has remained largely unchanged since it was issued.
