Évelyne Valen (1 May 2033 - 7 October 2067) was the head of government in all of Connuriste between February 28 2065 and October 7 2067. She was killed in a terrorist attack in Archeon, the capital city of the Kingdom of Andine whilst attending a peace summit there.

Early life

Évelyne Valen was the youngest of four siblings, born in Sion. She came from a successful and wealthy family and spent her childhood living in the shadows of her older siblings yet still well cared of. She wasn't particularly close to her older brothers and sister. Due to the wealthy status and well connections of her family she was able to attend the finest schools in Switzerland.

Young adulthood

Upon graduating from secondary school, Valen choose to take a similar path of many of her countrymen and women and decided to enter the into the Army. Given her fine education, she found herself becoming an officer in more specialized parts of the Swiss military, namely intelligence, where she had great success, becoming the youngest Captain (and later Major) in Swiss military history.

Personal life

Valen kept most details of her own personal life to herself, refusing to comment on such topics to the press. A lot of insight comes from the own observations of the press into her daily activities and accounts by people that knew her.

It was known that Valen at points in her life had an on and off relationship with Princess Marie Karoline, who frequented Geneva. There has been plenty of media speculation concerning other partners, mainly due in part to the way she was known as very charismatic and charming with her words and slander, both domestic and foreign, that she was a seductress. Other factors, such as how she wished to mix with political allies and discuss their political agendas over dinner rather than plainly in an office, and her preference to forge political relationships with others on a one-by-one basis instead of in groups perhaps contributed to this notion.

Valen was known to have had a close and friendly political relationship with the Emperor, and was heavily rumored to have some sort of 'improper' connection with the prominent Dutch Tómas Vanderson.

Valen was very popular within Connuriste and Switzerland, but had mixed reception abroad. She was however, mostly well-respected by those who did not particularly like her.

Death

Évelyne Valen and Emperor Connor II in late fall of 2067, attended a Summit in Archeon, the capital of the newly created Kingdom of Andine. Valen and Connor II arrived at the Diplomat Building in Archeon on October 7. Upon arriving Valen was witnessed having spoken briefly to James Walsh, the Chancellor of Andine. It is unknown what Valen and Walsh spoke about, but it would be the last time the public saw her alive. Just as the summit was beginning and the delegates were to enter the Diplomat Building when an attack began on the city. A missile, believed to be launched by the terrorist organisation, Cerberus; crashed into the building and after a delay of a few seconds exploded. The blast severely injured Valen and Connor II, killing her in a matter of minutes.

Valen's body was taken by Atmoran medics to the waiting battleship the Niobe in an attempt to revive her, but despite doctors best efforts, it was confirmed that she had died. At first there was some confusion over where Valen had died, while it was originally stated that she had died aboard the Niobe, it was later corrected that she died in Archeon.

Legacy

So far, the legacy, if any, of Chancellor Valen is unclear. Connor II has publicly said that her methods of governance have impacted and changed his own methods for the better.

Also, Aurelia MacDonald has cited Valen as a role model and source of inspiration. They very briefly had a political relationship whereby MacDonald was 'shown the ropes' of politics in Connuriste and internationally, and personally gained insight into how Valen handled responsibilities.

The Dutch author Reinier Nanne published a biography of Valen shortly after her death, titled The Secret Empress. It proved very popular in the Netherlands and in several European countries, but sold very little in Switzerland. It painted a picture of her as a controlling and manipulative temptress, and the true power in Connuriste.
