The Battle of Yushan was a decisive battle fought between August 20 to September 17, 1947. It was primarily fought between the Taoyuanese rebels led by Soong Feng-jeou and the Quenminese Government forces under Kiều Hữu Dương. The battle was to decide the fate the outcome of the war. The Taoyuanese troops under Soong were determined to take the Yushan Mountain Range while the Quenminese under Kieu were determined to put the rebellion down. Wushan was the best place for the Quenminese defenders to prevent them from getting in to the vital regions of Hualien and Taitung. With fierce determination, the rebels overran the Quenminese defences at Wushan and Kieu was forced to retreat off the mountain region.
The victory at Wushan for the Taoyuanese was a decisive outcome as it had ensured 2/3rds of control for the whole Taoyuanese archipelago.
