She served as Minister of the Interior from 2013 to 2017 in the Martí government and has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Esquerra d'Estaràs in Cartaganca since 2011. Following Pere Martí's resignation, Gaià won the party's leadership election and was appointed as Prime Minister on 13 May 2017.
