The Al Ajmayl earthquake (Arabic : زلزال الاجميل) is a magnitude 5.1 earthquake which occurred near the city of Al Ajmayl in [[Salamat]] on Wednesday February 3 1989 at 9 h 52 min 16 s local time (UTC 10 h 52 min 16 s). The fault which caused the earthquake is the Salamat fault, which is famous for being active despite being located on the interior of a plate. The earthquake lasted for approximatively 30 seconds and damaged the city of Al Ajmayl, 11 kilometers west of the epicenter and a oil production site 7 kilometers north of the epicenter. 177 died and 229 were injured.
