The Mk 208 HBSR is a semi-automatic, coil accelerated battle rifle chambered in 8.5 mm x 82 mm SRC (Servic Rifle Cartridge). The weapon is constructed from a primary titanium chassis that is reinforced with nanocarbon composite materials, making the rifle robust and resistant to battlefield wear and tear. The bolt is constructed out of pure titanium molybdenum alloy, making it highly resistant to corrosion and the barrel has been reinforced with tungsten carbide and chrome-lined to keep it from expanding too much when heated from the firing of rounds, which could affect accuracy. The barrel is also specially tuned to improve accuracy, netting a deviation of only 0.01 mm off target at 100 meters during tests. The rifle feeds via a bullpup magazine system, with either 10, 15 or 20 round magazines available for the Mk 208.

The Mk 208 Heavy Barrel Service Rifle is a Oderran designed, semi-automatic battle/marksman rifle that has been standard service rifle of the Confederate military since 2948. Regarded as one of the most effective coil accelerator firearms ever produced, it however suffered in performance against linear accelerator weaponry such as Concordium railguns and performed poorly against shielded targets, evident in the Great Intergalactic War.

Design

A female Confederate army trooper during the Battle of Nuvari holding her Mk 208.

The Mk 208 HBSR is a semi-automatic, coil accelerated battle rifle chambered in 8.5 mm x 82 mm SRC (Service Rifle Cartridge).

The rounds are fed into the chamber from the rear of the rifle and the magazine well utilises a magazine door system that prevents magazines from falling out of the weapon and foreign matter from entering the rifle. The magazines of the the Mk 208 are also of titanium construction and also feature a data connection to the rifle's integrated electronics suite, allowing it to display to the user how many rounds are left in the magazine.

Ammunition

The rifle is able to be chambered for two rounds: the 8.5 x 82 mm SRC or service rifle cartridge and the 12.5 x 99 mm HDAC or heavy duty antimaterial cartridge.
