The '''Independence Party''' (Hverlandic: ''Kavhängighetfolkpartiet''; '''K''') is the major contemporary party of the Hverlandic centre-right. As of 2022, Independence is the largest party in the [[Folktingi]], among the nation's local municipalities, and are the fifth largest in the Church Council. The party has been the major coalition parter since the 2022 election, governing with the [[Farmer-Labour Party (Hverland)|Farmer-Labour Party]], the [[Christian Democrats (Hverland)|Christian Democrats]], [[New Future]], and the [[Centre (Hverland)|Centre Party]]. It is the largest party in the right-of-centre Alliance.
Different factions have dominated the Independence Party at different times, although over the past 80 years it has moved from the right-wing more towards the centre. The party advocates economic liberalism such as a reduction of taxes, deregulation, and free trade. The party defines itself as a "conservative party of progress". The party generally supports semi-privatization through state-funded private services, reduced taxes, LGB rights, and tougher law and order measures. Abortion remains a contentious issue within the party, although most members oppose repealing the current ban. The party opposes immigration from non-Western countries, but also advocates for an inclusive civic nationalism.
