Moksha was a Normarkian rock band formed in [[Kinnavuopio]], [[Greater Normark]], in 1986. Founded by lead singer and guitarist David Poujarolla, drummer Juatan Homme and bassist Daniel Hällqvist, the band went through several different line ups with the mst famous one consisting of lead singer and lead guitarist Kevin Hansen, bassist Pål Ruud and drummer Filip Berg. Moksha's success popularized alternative rock, and they were often referenced as the figurehead band of Generation X. Their music maintains a popular following and continues to influence modern rock culture.
In the late 1980s, Moksha established itself as part of the Kinnavuopio underground scene, releasing its first album, Kodename Karma, for the independent record label Psychodelia Inc. 1988. They developed a sound that relied on dynamic contrasts, often between quiet verses and loud, heavy choruses. After signing to major label NMI Records in 1990, Moksha found unexpected mainstream success with "Faithless", the first single from their landmark second album Second Hand Belief (1990).
Characterized by their punk and alternative rock aesthetic, Moksha's fusion of cathcy pop melodies with noise and fast riffs brought them global popularity. Moksha disbanded following Kevin Hansen's death in August 1997. Moksha is one of the best-selling bands in normarkian history, having sold more than 25 million records worldwide.
