Kurnow Brigade

The Kurnow Brigade was a revolutionary militia and later unit of the Arenlandic Armed Forces. It played an important role in the Kurnow Revolution and Third Arenland-Oritanth War as the chief defence force of the Kurnow revolutionaries. It later served as a combat unit in the Arenland Army before being stood down following military reforms in 1954. It is now a ceremonial unit attached to the Premier's Office, serving as an honor guard for premier events, remembrances and military ceremonies.

Established in 1489 during the Kurnow Revolution, the Brigade was formed from a union of various smaller militias in the Kurnow region to coalesce their strength. The Brigade saw victory against royalist forces in the Battle of Charlie Hill, ending the government's military incursion into the recalcitrant Kurnow region. Following the outbreak of the Third Arenland-Oritanth War, the Brigade was instrumental in the formation of the Arenland Republican Army which unified the militias against the invading Oritanthan forces. Kurnow Brigade forces engaged the enemy in numerous battles throughout the conflict including at the Siege of Farbourne, Kurnow Incursion and Battle of Arenkau.

Song

Numerous songs became deeply ingrained in the culture of the revolutionary militias, helping to foment common threads of nationality between the disparate militias. In time, these songs became embedded as folksongs and cultural icons in the post-revolutionary Arenland. "The Kurnow Brigade" set to an old folktune, written by an unknown author was composed to immortalize the Battle of Charlie Hill. It has since become a symbol of revolutionary culture and an anthem for the defiant militias. Different iterations of the tune exist but the below is the most commonly accepted version.
