The Kingdom of Gay Furries or simply Gay Furries, is a country in south Sparkalia. It is relatively cold, even though it is situated on an island, and has somewhat flat terrain.
The nation was founded by a violent revolution in 1423, due to the prosecution of homosexuals and furries in their homeland. The 2 groups jointly took up arms against their masters and won independence. Several important battles were fought and won by brilliant military strategists who had given their allegiance to the cause, having been hidden supporters since its inception. Since then the nation has been relatively peaceful, save for a 4-year revolution beginning on the event titled the Bloody 1st of May, where 2 of the Army's generals and 1 admiral declared revolution against Gay Furries due to their insistence on mandatory furry transformation where safe and practical. The revolution remained a bloody, hard-fought conflict all the way up until the treaty to end it was drawn up and signed, with the stipulation that the government shall not force furry transformation or endorse any particular sexuality. Despite this, non-furry inhabitants make up a minority of the nation.
The nation is fairly well developed despite still enforcing conscription.
Etymology
The territory gained its name during the fighting of the Battle of Walker's Cross in 1424, where, upon the loyalist forces being driven back by line infantry of the Gay Furries, it became apparent that the nation would have lasting independence. When the 1st king, Sir Oscar Wells, was asked what the nation would be called, he simply responded "Damn it, you could name it 'Gay Furries' for all I care!" And thus, the crude, somewhat on-the-nose name was given to the fledgling nation, though some have called into question its validity considering it was given while the King was attempting to direct forces in battle.
History
Sir Oscar Wells was born a nobleman in 1397, where he gained military experience and learned how to lead men. As a gay furry, he secretly rallied other gays and furries to create a small, covert army. Participation was at great risk to each member, as not only was it designed to conspire against the government, but furries and gays were already prosecuted heavily. This was evidenced by several early members being arrested and hanged. On November 27, 1423, Sir Oscar Wells and the rest of his covert army declared independence. This angered their host nation, who regarded the new kingdom as illegitimate and refused to declare an actual war, simply fighting it as if it were a civil war.
Upon declaration of the war and removal of the secret status of Sir Oscar Wells' army, thousands flocked to join the fight, taking up arms. This was actually a slight liability for the Gay Furries, as they had no centralized command other than 5 regiments of line infantry, 1 of artillery, 2 light infantry and 1 light cavalry regiment, all drawn up from soldiers who had made the arduous journey to the main forces. Quickly, several towns sympathetic to the cause either vowed neutrality or joined the Gay Furry kingdom. These cities would be raided several times by loyalist forces, causing each to form their militias. 1 notable such militia was the Walker's Cross Consolidated Militia, comprised of volunteers from Walker's Cross and the neighboring regions. This militia fought with distinction at the Battle of Walker's Cross, along with the 2nd and 5th line infantry regiments, in one of the most important battles of the war. The regiment would later be brought into the regular army, under the title of 6th "Consolidation" Regiment of Foot. Other notable battles included Affinity, the Siege of Yorck, and Fureston
In an unceremonious ending to the war, diplomats from both sides met in the newly-renovated capital, Affinity, to discuss terms of peace. The daring Furry diplomat pushed for an unconditional surrender of the claims made by the Gay Furries, and the opposing diplomats were forced to concede. Thus, the new nation was at peace, and it could begin its first growth period. During the post-war period, revolutionary fervor passed several laws securing liberties of the people, and the powers of the government, creating a legislature and reforming the national militia. During this era several technological advancements, such as renovation of army uniforms and tactics, and new methods of farming, using the small amount of cold land properly, were made, making Gay Furries a fairly advanced nation for the time.
