The Commonwealth of Mattheland, or just Mattheland, is a sovereign nation located in eastern _______ continent of Anderval along the ______ Ocean. Mattheland borders the nations of… The capital city of Mattheland is Grenneighll, in the south central potion of the country and has been the capital of Mattheland since 1629 when the first Commonwealth of Mattheland was proclaimed. Grenneighll is also the largest city in the country with a population of 2,210,570 people.

History

Ancient

The area that comprises Mattheland had for centuries been a loose confederation of kingdoms of the Matthelish people. Warring between these kingdoms was commonplace especially throughout the 1200-1500s as competition over resources and land grabs led to conflict. The largest of these kingdoms were the western based Lisarre Kingdom, the southern based Malahare Kingdom and the northeastern Kingdom of Eserol. These kingdoms along with the many smaller ones around them were in a endless state of competition and war as alliances and backstabbing ruled the era.

Early Modern

In the mid-1600s, a period of Enlightenment began in the, at the time small Matthelish Principality of Grenneighll. Grenneighll was a city-state in south central Mattheland known for its more evolved society and the best mercenary soldiers in the region. If they could properly organize their army and organize the other smaller mid size Kingdoms, Duchies and Principalities against the rule of the three large kingdoms they could end the constant back and forth fighting. In 1629 the Mattheland combined forces led by the Principality of Grenneighll defeated the Kingdom of Malahare in the War of the South annexing the kingdom into what would become the first Commonwealth of Mattheland.

For much of Mattheland's history it's economy was primarily based on the agrarian lifestyle with farming dotting the majority of the countryside. Most of the population lived and worked in small farming communities producing the food necessary for the country to feed itself. This has long been a national policy of the Matthelish government to not rely on food imports.

Executive

Executive division of government in Mattheland is the official head of state led by the Governor and Vice Governor. this division is responsible for approving legislation or denying it passage into law. The Governor is elected into office via direct popular vote of the citizens of Mattheland.
