The Lumenic Legion's special operations forces are the special operations capable formations of Lumenic Legion and comprise units from all three branches of the Legion; the Lumenic Army, Lumenic Air Force, and Lumenic Armada. No units certified as special operations capable exist within the Armada's naval infantry component or within the Lumenic Royal Guard, though members of the naval infantry routinely service with the Armada's Special Naval Warfare Teams.
Unified Special Operations Command
The Unified Special (Comando Unificato delle Operazioni Speciali), often abbreviated CO-OPS, is a unified combatant command of the Lumenic Legion and is charged with coordinating the activities of the various special operations units of the Lumenic Legion. It is the only unified combat command created at the direct order of the Lumenic Sovereign and was established in 1974. While each branch of the Lumenic Legion has a distinct Special Operations Command that is capable of running its own operations, when the different special operations forces need to work together for an operation, CO-OPS becomes the joint component command of the operation.
Lumenic Army
Cacciatori
The Lumenic Army special forces units, often referred to as Cacciatori, or Hunters, are geared towards a variety of doctrinal missions, including: unconventional warfare, foreign internal defense, direct action, counterterrorism, counterinsurgency, information operations, counterproliferation of weapons of mass destruction, and security force assistance. Units emphasize language, cultural, and training skills in working with foreign troops; recruits are required to learn a foreign language as part of their training and must maintain knowledge of the political, economic, and cultural complexities of the regions in which they are deployed.
As special operations units, Lumenic Army special operations formations are not necessarily under the command authority of the ground commanders in those countries. Instead, while in theater, SF units may report directly to a geographic combatant command
