Azureah (IPA:ˈæʒɚɹˌi͡ə) ,officially the United Republic of Azureah, is a federal bicameral parliamentary republic located in the north of the Orrasian Continent on the planet of Krystar. It shares its border with ? in the east, ? in the north, ? in the south and ? Ocean in the West. The country is situated in the basin of River Athana and the Mouth of the largest river in the continent is situated at the western borders of the country towards the ocean. The Administrative affairs of the country happens from its capital Cyanara located in the Cyanara Province of Azureah. Cyanara is a major economic and cultural hub along with other major cities in the nation like; New Ferrerah, Khormez and Nehrath. Azureah has a democratically elected federal government which rules according to the constitution of the country and is headed by the Chancellor of Azureah (Head of Government and state). Azureah has an area of 390,000 square miles with a population of 86.25 million according to the most recent estimates.

In 1888, the modern states of Azureah were officially formed, uniting three different empires into a single nation. This unification aimed to enhance economic stability, political cohesion, and cultural unity. It set the foundation for a robust democratic system, leading to the first elections in 1890 and paving the way for Azureah's growth and prosperity. The Unification also brought an end to the long standing monarchial system in the region. The Unification of Azureah was a result of the seventy year old struggle which came to be known as the The Unification Struggle for the re-establishment of democracy in the region.

Etymology

The name ""Azureah"" is derived from a blend of multiple classical languages.The most believeable understanding of etymology of the term is that it is derived from the Persian ""lāžward"" (لاژورد‎), referring to lapis lazuli or the color blue and by the Hebrew word "ruach" (רוּחַ), meaning "breath" or "spirit," signifying the essence of the nation. There exists multiple theories which talks about the origin of the term and one of them says it is derived from the name of the language Azurii. Azurii is the indigeneous language of the Azureans and is widely spoken throughout the country. Another popular theory links to the Athanasian Tribals that used to inhabit the banks of River Athana. It is said that these tribals used to worship the river and used to call her "Athanos". When the river used to flood, the tribals believed the river goddess was getting angry. This Ferocious form of the river goddess was known to be "Azura" and that later got to be turned into "Azuryah".

Geography

Azureah spans an area of 1,000,000 square kilometers, marked by striking geographical diversity and a variety of biomes. The nation is located on a peninsula bordered to the west by the Strait of Azureah and surrounded by the lands of Orrasia on all other sides. The nearest recognized nation, Elaria, lies approximately 1,600 kilometers away. Azureah’s terrain features four major biomes, each contributing to the country’s ecological wealth and natural beauty. Wetlands cover 143,380 square kilometers, and are concentrated in low-lying areas of the country, particularly in the southeastern regions where the River Athana flows. These wetlands are rich in biodiversity, hosting species like herons, otters, and water lilies. They play a crucial role in water purification, flood control, and supporting migratory bird populations. The temperate rainforests of Azureah cover a vast 525,803 square kilometers, primarily in the western regions near the Strait of Azureah. These rainforests are characterized by towering coniferous and deciduous trees, moss-covered forest floors, and abundant rainfall. They are home to unique species such as the Azurean elk, red fox, and various endemic fungi and mosses. Spread across 232,193 square kilometers, the temperate deciduous forests stretch across the central and northern regions of Azureah. With distinct seasonal changes, these forests are adorned with oaks, maples, and birches. They serve as crucial habitats for deer, squirrels, and migratory birds. In autumn, the forests transform into a breathtaking mosaic of reds, oranges, and yellows. Azureah’s grasslands span 121,005 square kilometers, located in the northern plains and parts of the southeast. These open landscapes are dominated by tall grasses, wildflowers, and shrubs. The grasslands support grazing animals like bison and antelope, as well as predatory birds such as hawks and eagles. They are also an essential area for agricultural activity.

The River Athana, the largest river in Azureah, flows across much of the nation and plays a vital role in its geography. With a discharge of 927 m³/s and a mouth near the capital city of Cyanara, it has a width of 7.857 kilometers at its terminus. The river is a lifeline for agriculture, transportation, and cultural activities in Azureah, and its basin hosts many of the country’s wetlands and forests. Azureah’s diverse biomes and its prominent natural features, such as the River Athana and the Strait of Azureah, form the backbone of its rich ecosystem and make it a land of extraordinary ecological and geographical significance.

Average temperatures range between 9°C and 20°C, making the country comfortable for habitation and tourism. Rainfall is consistent, with an annual average of 3,000 mm, supporting the lush vegetation and thriving ecosystems in the forests, wetlands, and grasslands. The western regions near the Azure Sea receive higher precipitation, while the northern and central regions experience slightly cooler conditions. Azureah’s harmonious climate, combined with its diverse biomes and natural features such as the River Athana and the Strait of Azureah, shapes the unique ecological and geographical identity of the nation.

Environmental Issues

Azureah faces several environmental challenges arising from its natural diversity and human activities. The country’s 143,380 square kilometers of wetlands are under threat from agricultural expansion, urbanization, and pollution, which disrupt water filtration and reduce biodiversity. Seasonal flooding, particularly near the River Athana, exacerbates these issues. The nation’s forests, including 525,803 square kilometers of temperate rainforests and 232,193 square kilometers of temperate deciduous forests, face deforestation due to logging, agricultural activities, and urban development. This has resulted in habitat loss, soil erosion, and increased carbon emissions. The grasslands, crucial for agriculture and grazing, are impacted by soil erosion caused by overgrazing and poor land management. This threatens both agricultural productivity and the sustainability of these ecosystems.

The River Athana, with a discharge of 927 m³/s and a width of 7.857 kilometers at its mouth near Cyanara and other major rivers and streams pose as a critical water source but faces pollution from industrial and agricultural runoff. This has led to nutrient loading and risks of eutrophication, endangering aquatic life and water quality. Azureah’s temperate climate is vulnerable to climate change. Rising temperatures and shifting rainfall patterns could lead to more frequent floods, droughts, and other extreme weather events. The growth of urban areas and tourism has also placed pressure on natural resources, particularly in forested and grassland regions. These activities contribute to habitat disruption, waste accumulation, and resource depletion, further straining the country’s ecosystems. Efforts to address these issues include initiatives in sustainable land management, conservation, and pollution control, though challenges remain as development continues.

Politics and Government

Politics

Azureah operates under a multiparty system with a bicameral legislature and a strong tradition of democratic governance. The Chancellor, the leader of the largest party, serves as the head of state and government. Elections are held every five years, a tradition established with the country’s first election in 1890, two years after its formation. The National Party won the inaugural election, and its leader, George Ashcroft, became the first Chancellor of Azureah. The National Party remained in power until 1925. Over the years, nine political parties or alliances have held power, reflecting the dynamic and diverse political landscape of Azureah.

Currently, the country is led by William Clifford of the National Conservatives Party. Azureah’s National Congress, its bicameral legislature, is divided into two houses: the Assembly of Federal Representation (Upper House) and the Assembly of Central Representation (Lower House). Both play key roles in shaping the nation's laws and policies. Each of Azureah’s six provinces has its own government, which conducts separate provincial elections to address local governance and legislative matters. Azureah’s political system encourages robust representation at both national and provincial levels.

Government

Azureah’s government structure revolves around its bicameral legislature, the National Congress, and the Grand Chancellory of Azureah, which oversees the executive functions. The Assembly of Central Representation (Lower House) has 624 seats, filled through general elections every five years. Meanwhile, the Assembly of Federal Representation (Upper House) consists of 112 members: 100 members are elected by provincial governments, while the remaining 12 members are non-politicians, nominated by the Chancellor for their expertise and contributions in various fields.

The Grand Chancellory of Azureah, led by the Chancellor, governs alongside a team of Cabinet Ministers, who are responsible for various administrative portfolios. The government’s policies are implemented under the guidance of this executive body. Azureah also has a robust judicial system, with the National Court of Justice as the highest judicial authority, followed by the Provincial High Courts. This system ensures the rule of law and acts as a check on the legislature and executive. The Azurean Military is one of the largest and most well-organized defense forces in Krystar, playing a vital role in ensuring national security and contributing to international peacekeeping missions. The military is structured into seven specialized branches, each tasked with distinct responsibilities to protect Azureah’s sovereignty, secure its borders, and uphold global peace.
