The 2019 Tevitheimer | The 2019 Tevitheimer grand chancellery election was the tenth sextennial grand chancellery election in Tevitheim. The election consisted of two rounds. The first, held on 4 February, saw a total of six major candidates garner electoral votes. As no candidate garnered a majority of electoral votes required, a runoff election would be held among the top two candidates, Grand Chancellor of Rookeryet Daniel Bylund and Alnatingsrepresentant from Elveanna Erik Torrents, on 25 February. Bylund would beat Torrents by a slim majority of just 1.1 million votes, or just over 1.0 percent, in what has been called one of the largest upsets in Tevitheimer political history. Incumbent grand chancellor Aud Raimundo of the Progressive-Greens party was ineligible to run for a second term, as Tevitheimer grand chancellors are prohibited from being elected to more than a single term. Raimundo's popularity led many to believe that the Progressive-Greens, usually the smaller of the two dominant left-wing parties in Tevitheim, would eclipse the Republican Party during the 2019 campaign, and incumbent Vice Chancellor Mikkel Landser was called the "prohibitive favorite" for the grand chancellery.
In the first round, the Social Union took first place with 26.0% of the vote and 118 electoral votes, followed by Torrents with 22.5% of the vote and 97 electoral votes, Mikkel Landser of the Progressive-Greens with 20.7% and 91 electoral votes, Harald Wang of the Liberal Democrats with 16.9% and 73 electoral votes, Sivert Grimsrud of the Nationals with 6.7% and 33 electoral votes, and in last place Worker's Party candidate Hull Mor'Tins with 5.0% and 27 electoral votes. As no candidate surpassed the 220 votes required for victory, the election would be decided in a second round, held three weeks later. The top two candidates, Bylund and Torrents, advanced with all other candidates eliminated. The top two candidates, Bylund and Torrents, advanced with all other candidates eliminated.
Despite expectations Landser would advance, an aggressive campaign by Torrents and several campaign missteps by Landser led to Torrents edging out Landser by a margin of 1.8%, or 2.1 million votes. Despite polls for the second indicating a loss for Bylund, he would win by a slim 1.1 million vote majority against Torrents, 50.5% to Torrents' 49.5% of the vote and 243 electoral votes to Torrents' 196 votes, though 156 votes would be given to Bylund under the terms of the Popular Vote Agreement. This marked the first victory by the Social Union since 1989. The Social Union would form a minority coalition with the Liberal Democrats in the Alnating.

Under Article 2 of the Constitution of Tevitheim, the grand chancellor is elected to a six-year term in an indirect election. Voters vote for slates of electors, who then elect the grand chancellor. Electors are distributed by population, with the smallest jarldom receiving three votes and all others receiving votes in proportion to their relative populations compared to the smallest jarldom. In 2019 the smallest jarldom were the combined Territories, which received three votes. The largest was Hellighjerte, which received 54 votes. | Under Article 2 of the Constitution of Tevitheim, the grand chancellor is elected to a six-year term in an indirect election. The winner of the election then takes office six weeks after election day, giving roughly one and a half months for a candidate to negotiate coalitions and prepare to assume office.
Electoral votes are distributed through a wide variety of methods in the first round, but due to Tevitheim's fractured political stage it is unlikely any candidate secures a first round victory in most elections. A total of six jarldoms had signed on and had a collective bloc of 223 votes, ensuring the winner of the national popular vote in the second round would be elected as grand chancellor.

===Social Union Nomination===
Initially, incumbent Alnatingsrepresentant from Ditka Vulter Mondale was considered the frontrunner for the Social Union nomination. However, the former chief of staff for Grand Chancellor Paal Zhang, Margot Kvinnedottir, and professor of laws from the University of Anders-På-Havet, Abjørn Guche, put their names into the convention for nomination, alongside Bylund. After three ballots Bylund withdrew from contention. However, after the ninth ballot, which was still deadlocked with no candidate having the 2,498 votes to be nominated, Bylund re-entered his name into contention as a compromise candidate. Bylund was nominated on the tenth ballot.
Bylund is alleged to have initially wanted to offer the position of Vice Chancellor to Mondale, but Mondale refused to be considered, publicly stating he preferred to become Bylund's National Security Advisor if Bylund were elected. Bylund asked Guche, who accepted the nomination for Vice Chancellor.

===Republican Nomination===
Compared to the much more contested Social Union nomination, the Republican convention was much less contentious. Alnatingsrepresentant Erik Torrents of Elveanna was widely considered the prohibitive favorite for the Republican nomination. Torrents had served as a political ally and close coalition partner to the popular Raimundo despite being from different parties and was favored by a majority of Republican voters. However, the incumbent governor of Devold, Kjell Renzi, and the incumbent chief administrator of Nellsheim, Anders Harvman, both proved to be major contenders and denied Torrents nomination on the first ballot.
In exchange for the support of the Renzi faction, and to shore up support among westerners, Torrents announced that, if nominated, he would select Renzi as his vice chancellor. The pro-Renzi faction swung its support to Torrents on the second ballot, giving him 2,437 votes- far more than the 1,530 needed for nomination.

Incumbent vice chancellor Mikkel Landser was strongly endorsed by Aud Raimundo. With Raimundo's endorsement, Landser was guaranteed a near-unanimous nomination. On the first ballot, Landser received 3,917 of 3,921 votes available (four voters abstained). Landser would select former infrastructure chancellor, Joan Haraldsen of New Hammerfest as his vice chancellor.

==Liberal Democratic Nomination== | ===Liberal Democratic Nomination===
The Liberal Democratic nomination was much more competitive than either the Republican or Progressive-Green nominations. A total of 5 major candidates were considered for nomination. On the 6th ballot, Alnatingsrepresentant Harald Wang of Eldegard was selected as the nominee. Wang's selection came as a surprise- businessman Erak Andersen of Prospekt was considered the front runner, and Wang was in 3rd. Wang was, per party rules, to be eliminated from contention after the fourth round, but allegations that Horvold Orben, who was ahead of Wang, had covered up heart attack in March 2019 resulted in Orben withdrawing his name from nomination, allowing Wang to survive and jump to first place, claiming most of Orben's delegates. Unlike other parties, which allow their grand chancellery nominee to select his/her running mate, per Liberal Democratic Party rules, the second place winner, Andersen was selected as the vice chancellery nominee. 2,501 votes of 5,000 were required for nomination.

===National Nomination===
After party founder and leader, Jens Larssen, retired in 2017, the National Party's nomination was considered open for the first time in decades. Deputy leader Sivert Grimsrud was considered the front runner for the nomination, but several members of the National Party spoke out against her, with several prominent Nationals signing a letter which called Grimsrud too left-wing and too willing to compromise, referring to her attempts to negotiate with the Social Union and Liberal Democrats to lift the Cordon sanitaire (politics) on the National Party. As a result, the National Party convention also saw Alnatingsrepresentant Erwin Romneysen and far-right pastor Donald Kalle run against Grimrud.
Despite winning on the second ballot, Grimsrud's faction was forced to make overtures to the more conservative factions of the Nationals. Due to the personal animosity between Grimsrud and Romneysen, Grimsrud would select Kalle as her running mate.

The 2019 Tevitheimer grand chancellery election was the tenth sextennial grand chancellery election in Tevitheim.
Electoral System
Under Article 2 of the Constitution of Tevitheim, the grand chancellor is elected to a six-year term in an indirect election. Voters vote for slates of electors, who then elect the grand chancellor. Electors are distributed by population, with the smallest jarldom receiving three votes and all others receiving votes in proportion to their relative populations compared to the smallest jarldom. In 2019 the smallest jarldom were the combined Territories, which received three votes. The largest was Hellighjerte, which received 54 votes.
If no candidate secures an absolute majority of electoral votes in the first round, a second round is held three weeks later between the two candidates who received the most votes. According to the Constitution of Tevitheim, the first round of the grand chancellery election must be held on the first Monday of February, with the second round to be held exactly three weeks later.
The second round is distributed winner-take-all per each jarldom. However, after the 1995 election saw Aleksander Goreson win the grand chancellery despite Jonas Støre winning the popular vote, several jarldoms have agreed to distribute their electors to the winner of the national popular vote. A total of six jarldoms had signed on and had a collective bloc of 223 votes, ensuring the winner of the national popular vote in the second round would be elected as grand chancellor.

Nominations
Social Union Nomination

Republican Nomination

Progressive-Greens Nomination
Incumbent vice chancellor Mikkel Landser was strongly endorsed by Aud Raimundo. With Raimundo's endorsement, Landser was guaranteed a near-unanimous nomination. On the first ballot, Landser received 3,917 of 3,921 votes available (four voters abstained). Landser would select former infrastructure chancellor, Joan Haraldsen of New Hammerfest as his vice chancellor.

Liberal Democratic Nomination

National Nomination
After party founder and leader, Jens Larssen, retired in 2017, the National Party's nomination was considered open for the first time in decades. Deputy leader Sivert Grimsrud was considered the front runner for the nomination, but several members of the National Party spoke out against her, with several prominent Nationals signing a letter which called Grimsrud too left-wing and too willing to compromise, referring to her attempts to negotiate with the Social Union and Liberal Democrats to lift the cordon sanitaire on the National Party.

Worker's Party Nomination
Founder and leader of the Worker's Party, Hortik Ulcher, refused to run for grand chancellor, citing issues of poor health. His endorsed successor, union leader Hull Mor'Tins, was nominated near unanimously. Mor'Tins selected Brent Rasmussen, an indigenous author and political theorist from Jomfra, as his vice chancellor. The nomination of Mor'Tins, who hailed from the Hallasholm territory, was considered controversial due to uncertainity regarding if residents of terriories were eligible to run for grand chancellor. However, due to Mor'Tins losing the election, the issue became moot.

Interround Endorsements
As a major part of Tevitheimer elections includes interround endorsements, they are highly sought after by the surviving candidates.
Wang endorsed Bylund, while Grimsrud did not explicitly endorse Bylund but came out in opposition to Torrents. Landser appeared in a rally with incumbent grand chancellor Aud Raimundo, with both endorsing Torrents. Mor'Tins condemned the election results, saying he could not endorse any candidate who did not "endorse the destruction of capitalism and the redistribution of wealth" and thus refused to endorse either Torrents or Bylund.
