From Middle Menapian adwarn, from Old Menapian adwarn, adwarnad, from Primitive Menapian adβarnad ("to repeal; to cancel"), from Proto-Bythonic *adβarnad ("to repeal, to reverse judgement"), from *ad + *barnad, from Proto Celtic *ad + *barnati. Cognate with Welsh adfarnu ("to repeal").
