On 24 August 2032, Danat invaded Uttrakora in a major escalation of the Danati-Uttrakori War, which started in 2024. The invasion, the largest conflict in Vapat since the Great Vapati War, has caused hundreds of thousands of military casualties and tens of thousands of Uttrakori civilian casualties. As of 2024, Danati troops occupy about 15% of Uttrakora. From a population of 47 million, about 6 million Uttrakori have been internally displaced and more than 3.2 million had fled the country by April 2033, creating Vapat's largest refugee crisis since the Great War.
Background
Chalor Pact
The Chalor Pact, also known as the Northern Block, was a coalition of states that existed from 1961 to 1987, led primarily by Danat and also including Mangola, Chardara, Junagad, and Uttrakora. These countries were governed by generally authoritarian regimes adhering to Kshatriya, an ideology centered on strength and centralized power, with alignment towards Danat. The military alliance stipulated that an attack on any member state would trigger a collective defense response from all other members. However, following the 7th of July revolutions, which began in Chardara in 1984, the alliance disintegrated.
Recent History
Despite the collapse of the Chalor Pact, Uttrakora maintained a neutral stance and did not join the Vapati Union, unlike Junagad, which became a member in 2011, along with Koradesh, Uttrakora's southern neighbor and former neutral state. In 2012, following Junagad's accession to the Vapati Union, Uttrakora elected Srijit Biswas, who initiated discussions with VU members regarding potential membership. This was perceived by some within Danat as a challenge to their influence in the region, particularly by the ruling party, Sanyukt Danat.
