Arvinbuyant Serifoğlu Ghazaly (/ɡəˈzɑːli/ guh-ZAH-lee; born August 23, 1999), also known as Arvin Ghazaly is a Cascadean business owner and politician serving as a representative from California starting from 2034. A member of United Future, he represented California's 17th congressional district in in the 2034 Cascadean General Election. Ghazaly describes himself as a radical centrist. Before entering politics, he was known as a member of Metal Knights under the alias Omega Knight.
Early life and education
Arvin Ghazaly was born on September 17, 1998 to Serif Ghazaly and Anna Veeranathan, both second generation immigrant of Turkish and Indian ancestry. His father is a former professor at University of Berkeley, while his mother is a former Halske manager in San Francisco. Born in San Jose, California, Ghazaly moved to Japan at the age of 5, in fear of discrimination his family received due to September 11 attacks. He returned to the United States in 2006 and has since lived in Fremont. Ghazaly was raised as a moderate muslim and continues to practice Islam. He has a younger sister named Lily Ghazaly, currently working for the Cascadean Department of Agriculture (formerly CDFA).
Ghazaly attended Fremont High School, where he was active in the student government and Korean Club. He also went to Islamic prep school everyday after his regular schooling. After graduating from high school in 2017, Ghazaly went to San Diego University to study Asian and Pacific studies, later obtained a B.A. degree in 2022. Five years later, Ghazaly received his M.A from University of Hanyang.
Career
Ghazaly started his professional career in 2024 by working as an interpreter for a Korean MLM company in San Francisco, but resigned after three months. He later looked for other jobs, but was not able to land in any of them. He later transitioned into content creation and freelancing jobs, where he started making videos on Tiktok while taking on online freelance gigs. In that capacity, he opened his own food booth (which, would turn into Boxenbuns in the future) every weekends in Beryessa Flea Market, along with his mother and sister. Outside of working on his own business, he also helped his friend's Korean fried chicken store in Sunnyvale during weekdays.
Ghazaly didn't get involved in politics until late 2024 where he volunteered to campaign for Elizabeth Bishwas, his great distant relative in preparation for the 2024 United States House of Representatives elections, while also donating and supporting Jill Stein for the 2024 United States presidential election. After the election, he ceased any political activities as he went to study in South Korea to study for masters degree.
After returning to the United States in 2027, he briefly worked for Lampas Media, but his career was halted as the Great Divide had began in September 2027.
Political Career
Ghazaly defeated Martina Nauryz of National Justice Front by 15% margin in the 2044 general election. He took office on September 15, 2034. Ghazaly was one of the first politician affiliated with United Future from California's 17th Congressional District to ever elected to the Congress.
Personal Life
Ghazaly is a polyglot, being able to speak six languages, including; Turkish, Tamil, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, and English. He is also trained in martial arts, holding a 2nd degree black belt in Taekwondo.
Ghazaly is a Sunni Muslim, although he never specified which school he follows, but Ghazaly has said he "followed what his mother taught him".
In 2035, Ghazaly married Amélie Almas-Lejeune, whom he met in Korean Club during college. The couple had an Islamic marriage ceremony in October 2034, followed by an outdoor wedding reception two months later. They have two children, Nicholas Aziz and Diana Motaz.
