Candidates ran under a nonpartisan blanket primary in May, with Theodore Hendricks and Susan Nicholas receiving the most and second-most votes, respectively. Hendricks ultimately prevailed over Nicholas by a margin of around 12 points. As expected, Hendricks and Nicholas both decisively won their respective home counties.
