The 2028 United States presidential election in California was held on November 7, 2028, as part of the 2028 United States presidential election in which all 50 states and the District of Columbia participated. California voters chose 54 electors to represent them via a popular vote. The Democratic ticket of Gavin Newsom and Cory Booker defeated incumbents JD Vance and Ron DeSantis and independent challengers Gretchen Whitmer and Pete Buttigieg. This was the first time since 1992 in which a candidate won California without winning a majority of the state's popular vote, and the first time since 1976 in which two candidates received more than 40% but less than 50% of the state's popular vote.
