Tesmaltese morphology has been deeply influenced by Hungarian, Arab and the Romance languages, namely Italian and Sicilian.
 
The Arabic base comprises around one-tenth of the Tesmaltese vocabulary, especially words that denote basic ideas and the function words, but about 75% of the vocabulary is derived from Hungarian and standard Italian, Sicilian and English make up between 6% and 20% of the vocabulary.
