The election was triggered by the resignation of Josephine Petersson in December, and won narrowly by [[Lina Nyberg]], the Work & Pensions Secretary.

In order to stand, candidates need to be nominated by 15% of the Parliamentary Labour Party, currently 13 MPs. All members and affiliated supporters of the Labour Party will be able to vote, as will members of Trade Unions affiliated to the Labour Party. Voting will take place between January 10 2020 and March 9 2020, with the result declared on March 10.
