The GG-90 is a stick type anti-personnel grenade. The explosive head also contains the fuse, enabling the head to be separated from the stick to be used as a 'booby trap'. The fuse trigger is a simple pin and lever type, removing the pin allows the 'spring-loaded' lever to come free, triggering the fuse, which burns for four seconds before detonation (users are warned that manufacturing defects, as well as natural variability of the fuse material, may cause the fuse to burn longer or shorter than indicated, although it is extremely uncommon that this unavoidable variability account for more than plus or minus one second of fuse burn time, the manufacturer is not liable for injuries that may result from defective fuse burn times). An inset knob at the top of the grenade can be turned ninety degrees, severing the four second fuse allowing the grenade to detonate instantly when the lever is released for use as a 'booby-trap'.
In normal use, the user grabs the grenade by the throwing-handle 'stick', making sure to firmly hold the lever against the handle. The user then pulls the pin and throws the grenade. The throwing handle provides a lever for the throwing action, significantly increasing the range the grenade can be thrown. The grenade achieves it's lethal effect via the steel body of the explosive head, which generates shrapnel generally lethal to 5 meters and able to produce grave wounds to 15m, although potentially lethal fragments may be thrown to upwards of 200m. It is recommended that cover is employed when using the GG-90 grenade for this reason.
