Toin, officially the Democratic States of Toin, is a country located in the South Atlantic Ocean. The name Toin comes from the indigenous word "home" or "village," as was discovered by the Brady Expedition of 1781. The British Empire claimed Toin as its own in 1782 and in 1783 sent 500 colonists to Port St. George, nearby modern-day Anchorton. Whitelaw is the national capital, but the largest city is the city-state of Anchorton.
Toin covers 341,387 square kilometres and has over 5.8 million people. Over 70 percent of Toin's citizens live in the Anchorton or Whitelaw metropolitan area, both of which are centres of transportation, business, and industry in the country. The remainder of the country consists of deep temperate rainforests along the west and east coasts and mountain ranges running along the interior spine of the island. The southeast, south of the Albatross Mountains, is an intensively used agricultural area. Mount Prosperity, an active stratovolcano, is Toin's highest elevation, at 4,348 metres.
Toin is a leading lumber producer; its rugged surface is rich in stands of Douglas fir, hemlock, ponderosa pine, white pine, spruce, larch, and cedar. Toin also produces a large number of apples, hops, pears, red raspberries, spearmint oil, and sweet cherries, as well as apricots, asparagus, dry edible peas, grapes, lentils, peppermint oil, and potatoes. Livestock and livestock products also make an important contribution to total farm revenue, while the commercial fishing of salmon, halibut, and bottomfish makes a significant contribution to the economy. Manufacturing industries include aircraft, missiles, and shipbuilding, among other transportation equipment, as well as food processing, metals and metal products, chemicals, and machinery in general. Toin has over 700 dams, including the Grand Prosperity Dam, built mostly for power, flood control, and water storage.
Toin is a wealthy and socially liberal nation, consistently ranking high in life expectancy and low in unemployment. Toin legalised same-sex marriage in 2010, provides abortion on request since 1993, but did not legalise cannabis or physician-assisted suicide.
History
Captain George Brady of the HMS Discovery sailed past the north-east coast of Toin in June 1781, making the first great discovery of his career, claiming Toin for the British Empire. A small landing party landed on a small beach near Cape Discovery, and the next day sailed past an indigenous village. Brady chose to communicate with the indigenous peoples, but a communication barrier quickly collapsed the prospect.
