The '''Glorious''' or ''Glórmhar''-class (also known as ''Patrún 98, Frigéad tPatról'' or ''FP98'') is a class of general purpose frigates built by Federal Shipbuilding and operated by the Glasic Navy.

The ships were unofficially referred to as “stealth frigates” when new due to their unconventional (for the time) appearance. Their reduced radar cross section is achieved from a combination of clean, angled superstructure lines, the use of composite materials and some application of radar-absorbent materials.

Initially rather austere vessels in terms of capabilities they have since matured into an effective class of constabulary vessels. Modularity was a key point of their design and construction allowing or the class to be assembled in mega blocks and floated out relatively complete. Internally, this modularity is also evident in the spaces reserved for future installation or replacement of combat information suites and sensors.

===Background===
By 1993 It had become clear that a original intent of procuring thirty Lightning-class to vessels was an unrealistic proposition and a cheaper constabulary vessel for 2nd line duties should be procured instead, allowing for the Lighting-class vessels that could be procured would be free to work with the ASW groups rather than being tasked for policing actions. As such their expected range of operations would be vast, ranging from the deepest extent of the Helian Ocean to the congested waters of the Caribbean and Maw.
The first ship and namesake of the class entered service to much fanfare at the turn of the millennium.

===Stealth===
At the time of their commissioning the Glorious-class were some of the most advanced warships afloat despite their seemingly mundane tasking. The shaping of the hull and superstructure was arrived at after extensive computer simulation and scale model testing. Their average reflected signature is more akin to that of a moderately sized trawler than a multi-thousand tonne warship.
In addition to their low-radar signature the class also possess a very low infrared signature due to their all-diesel propulsion and cooled exhausts. Furthermore their magnetic and acoustic signatures are heavily reduced through the extensive use of composites in their construction as well as a degaussing coil and Prairie-Masker system respectively.

===Construction===
The superstructure above the strength deck is primarily made of composite materials which allow for a drastic reduction in top weight. Important areas above the strength deck are lined with ballistic panels to improve their survivability as well as most important subsystems being double or triple redundant. There three zones split between two blocks and a central open space, contributing to the survivability of the vessels in the event of a superstructure fire.

The hull from the keel to the strength deck consists primarily of non-magnetic steels, similar to those found in contemporary submarines and a first in Glasic surface warship construction.
Unusually for a surface combatant, the port-handling equipment and anchors are all totally hidden until required with the anchor arrangements being even more unique in that the primary anchor is a keel-mounted affair.

The ships feature a pair of masts which also act as their funnels ''(also known as Macks)''. The shorter of the two supports the air-search radar whilst the taller supports a surface search set and electronic warfare systems.

===Mid-Life Updgrade===
Between 2014 and 2018 all nine vessels in the class have been substantially updated in two successive TICUP ''(Technology Insertion and Capability Upgrade Programme)'' initiatives, phase I and phase II.

Phase I consisted of dry-docking and the replacement of the primary and auxiliary diesel generators for newer, more efficient units from MTU as well as the application of a newer polymer-based antifoul coating, variable incidence transom flap and a more powerful auxiliary propulsor. The net result of these changes was an increase in maximum service speed to 27 from 26 knots. Also part of the first phase was the reintroduction of the second VLS block which had previously been removed with the advent of quad-packable munitions in the early 2000s. A new bulwark was erected around the VLS and countermeasure dispensers were added abeam the launcher block. Dispensers were also added amidships for 110/130mm decoys and immediately forward of the flight deck for acoustic decoys.

Phase II consisted of the replacement of on-board electronics with newer systems. The primary and secondary radar sets were replaced by a single NS110 dual-band radar system with the LPI search set being replaced and relocated to the foremast. Electro-optics were refreshed and replaced as required and a variety of fixed focal plane arrays and missile-warning systems were installed mid-way up the foremast.

Additionally to the two phased CUSP initiatives there were modifications undertaken to the ships armament during the intervening period between the two CUSPs, these included the replacing of 30mm manned mounts with a pair of low-impact 40mm Bofors, the installation of a pair of LMLs in place of the original Seastreak launcher and the deletion of the two 23mm manned mounts. The 75mm main gun also gained the ability to utilise guided ammunition via a new mounting.
