| The Imperial Government of the Greater Gothic Empire functions as a theocratic, totalitarian and universal absolute monarchy, ruled solely by the Emperor/Empress of All Gothica with virtually limitless and unrestrained absolute power, with generally aristocratic and (partially) militaristic elements. The main organ of government is the Chamber of Regents, which functions as a body of advisors to the Emperor/Empress without literal executive power, and is composed of around 144,000 members who are of the highest-ranking upper aristocratic houses of the Empire, led by a Lord or Lady President (who is also the Supreme Chancellor) and ultimately answerable only to the Emperor/Empress. The House of Basina is its ruling dynasty, having traced its origins to the Witch-Queen Basina who laid the foundations of the Gothic State in what is now Nodengard and its surrounding lands. | Remnants of what was once the human population that was reduced to drastically less than 100 million, following the global thermonuclear ctaclysm in the third decade of the second millennium AD, re-emerged after a few millennia after resettling themselves in nearly post-contaminated soil following their confrontations with the harsh wasteland environment. These settlements, followed by a slow and steady reconstruction of what was left of their civilization before the outburst, were met with attacks from wasteland peoples more often than usual, among them being the tribes that later make up the Goths that will soon emerge as a significant people since the arrival of the semi-mythical Witch-Queen Basina (ca. 2716? to 4015?) and are to persist to this day. One of the post-thermonuclear wasteland states to rise in the early fourth millennium per the era of the Radioactive Ice Age was a loose confederation of Gothic tribal kingdoms under the nominal suzerainty of Great Oium, followed by several other states that developed across the Old World.
