The Lucis-Gallian War was a major Europan conflict spanning from X743 - X745 triggered by the Gallian attack on Lucian Ships trying to land on the Port of Mulberry, killing 750 Sailors and 120 Merchants. The Lucians immediately declared war on the following day after the attack. Georgius II, who had been King of Great Lucis and its colonies since X727 had taken himself into battle and was the last King to lead his troops in battle until the X890s, during the time of King Regis Lucis Caelum CXII, A descendant of Georgius II through the main line of succession.
Charles II of the House of Martel had opposed many invasions from the Imperials as well as the Atlantic Federation in the early X730s to the early X740s since the War of Gallian Independence. His policy was of "Gallia for Gallians" and even refused trade with Great Lucis and the other nations except for Esthar, Balamb and Dalmasca.
Considering that the Gallians were well-trained and had good armaments, The Lucians were much more trained and their arms were more advanced. Leadership in the Gallian Army was could not compete with the Discipline and Control of the Lucian Commanders which contributed to Gallia's defeat. The War ended with Charles II relinquishing the crown to Georgius II and making Gallia another colony of the growing Lucis Empire. Despite these, Georgius II gave Charles magnanimity by making him as Duke of Randgriz, a position that was kept alive until the Gallian Independence.
Background
The Kingdom of Gallia had kept itself away from invaders since the X700s. The Gallians had good leadership and discipline than the Imperials or the Federation. When Charles II of Randgriz ascended to the throne of Gallia, He invented the policy of "Gallia for Gallians" which meant that no foreigner must pass except for ships from Balamb, Esthar and Dalmasca. The Lucian King, Georgius II had been interested in establishing diplomatic ties with the Principality to which was rejected by Charles II through Prince Francis, stating that the refuse to work with a colonial empire.
On 25th of July, X743, The Lucian Ships were to set sail for Tristain but had mistaken Gallia for Tristain and the Gallian Navy stationed on the Mulberry Ports sprung into their stations and engaged the outnumbered Royal Navy Fleet consisting of mostly merchant ships. Not one ship had survived the attack and defeat of the Lucians was well-received in Randgriz while the Lucians were enraged. Georgius II declared war on Gallia by the following day.
Aftermath
After the war, The Treaty of Randgriz was signed that made Gallia as a part of the Lucis Empire. Charles II surrendered the throne of Gallia to Georgius II but the Lucian King had an open heart, giving Charles a title of Duke of Randgriz, which existed until the Gallian Independence. Civil unrest ensued days after the signing of the treaty but Georgius II managed to restore peace back again. From then on, The Gallians had enjoyed the Lucian Rule overtime as laws were written for the benefit of the people.
At the time of the Gallian Independence, Noctis Lucis Caelum, now the King of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth Realms had granted Gallian Independence after 191 years of being a part of the Lucis Empire (now, Commonwealth) However, Cordelia gi Randgriz, a descendant of Charles II through the House of Randgriz (There were 2 Houses; Orléans, Randgriz. The House of Martel went extinct on the death of Isabella) had ordered that laws were to remain unchanged except that the former Gallian Blue Ensign would be replaced by the Gallian Flag. However, Cordelia had ordered that the Lucis Jack and the Gallian Blue Ensign are to remain permanently waved alongside with the Gallian Flag as a reminder to the people of how good the Lucian rule was and a reminder to the Gallian people and the Commonwealth that Gallia will retain its commonwealth identity.
Gallia (now named the Principality of Gallia-Bruhl) is currently a member of the Commonwealth of Nations, an organization composed mostly of territories of the former Lucis Empire and continues to partake in all of the Commonwealth activities whether it is for economic, cultural or military aid. The former Capital of Lutèce was renamed to Randgriz during the reign of Georgius III.
In a whole country survey poll at X941 (2015), 99.5% of those who answered found the Lucian Rule to be very great and very favorable to retain the nation's commonwealth identity as opposed to those who did not or didn't answer.
