L'Homme dans le Castro is an alternative history novel by Gaullican historian and novelist Philippe Douchon. Set in 1951, 10 years after an alternative ending to the Great War in which the war lasted until 1941, the novel provides a hypothetical insight into the ways of life of the once Democratically Free Asterians as they live under the boots of the Empire of Gaullica and the Empire of Caesena - who now rule over the former Federation. Meanwhile, behind the scenes of Totalitarian and Autocratic Strength, the weaknesses of a fragmenting Restoration Coalition affect the daily lives of the whole world in ways they cannot imagine. The book won several awards for its grand critique of the Fascist Governments in power.
Reported inspirations include Tyrol Yome's Alternate Solarian Empire Novel, Under the Mirror's Eagle (1921) and various classic histories prior to the Great War. The novel features a "novel within the novel" comprising an alternate history within this alternate history wherein the Democratic Alliance defeat the Restoration Coalition (though in a manner distinct from the actual historical outcome), with Euclea becoming a Communist Hotspot following a Kaxakh total domination.
