The Associated Cities of Sheen commonly referrered to as Sheen, is a nation located on the Sheenish Peninsula of the Continent of Vrirtha. Sheen is an alliance of multiple Mayoral Plutocratic City States, with the government system divided into 3 council levels. Sheen is comprised of 7 city states, each with their own Council and mayor, who elect politicians to the Alliance Court.

Etymology

Sheen comes from the old sheenish word meaning "brilliant" or "light", referring to the white chalk of the sheenish coastline, which has since been built over. Other regions in the Association however have far more interesting etymologies, for instance Seaxebaurgs was named by the Gothic settlers after the Saxon Fortresses that littered the area, and as for Dauthsaiws, it's name is derived from the Hundisch for "death lakes" referring to myths where many were slaughtered inside the lakes that are scattered across the region.

History

Over 1000 years ago in 878, the Danes came south and attacked the trade city of Seaxebaurgs, causing fear and distress in the neighbouring cities as to what would happen to them. This lead to the city states forming an alliance to help repel the Danish invasion and restore order to Seaxebaurgs. Over the next almost 700 years, the alliance remained just that, an alliance, however in 1562, the Treaty of Association 1562 was signed by all parties to form The Associated Cities of Sheen. This increased centralisation allowed for a united military under the City of Sheen High Command, and universal adoption of a single legal tender currency.

Antiquity

The first settlements on the Sheenish peninsula date to the late neolithic, with the sea people, followed later on by the Flagon Civilisation in the Bronze Age. In this period, the first cities in the region were founded, namely Kraudankh and the City of Tuicker, nowadays Old Tvicker in Tvickerland. With the onset of the Iron age came the founding of Sheen itself by people from Tvickerland, which over the next few centuries grew from a small settlement to the largest city on the peninsula.

Vexillology

The Flag of the Associated Cities of Sheen is made up of blue and navy waves on a white background, with a golden ship flying white sails and red flags sailing the waves in a leftwards direction. The waves represent our naval traditions, the golden ship our maritime wealth, and the red stands for the blood of those who fought to defend the sovereignty of the alliance against the Danish menace.
