Carrelie Songfestival 1954 was the first edition of the Carrelie Songfestival. Taking place in the Carrelian capital of Haufenburg, it was held on 14 August 1954 and became the first of many Songfestival contests.
The winner of the contest was Dentricia's Déana Böléfarine with "É çe nôn pâçe", written and composed by Réalïe Lépéçe, with 80 points. It became the first of many Dentrician wins in the contest.
Background
The idea of the Songfestival was first conceptualised by an executive of the Carelian Cultural Authority in 1953. Following the end of the Second World War, Carrelie's nations were left culturally distant, and the Songfestival was developed as a way to bring all of the nations together in song. The format was inspired by the Sanremo Music Festival in Italy, which had begun 2 years prior.
Participants
Five nations participated in this contest, each sending two songs. While Iffrwff was expected to take part in the contest, they withdrew after the death of King Oscar II. A rumour persisted for a while that Denmark was also meant to debut this year, though it was later confirmed to be false.
All five of the participating nations would later go on to win the contest.
Conductors
Each participating nation had a conductor who conducted the orchestra.
- Haufenburg – Karl Rache
- Douria – Jean-Luc Paulette
- Sorechlandt – Karl Rache
- Dentricia – Çéan Ïtésée
- Arianos – Ryk Imiten
