Jean Mercenet, born November 1, 1965 in Verdun, is a voiseyian politician. He was deputy of the 2nd constituency of the Meuse between 2005 and 2010 then embassador in Strasbourg in Brenne. Jean Mercenet was affiliated with the UCD until 2007.
Early Life, Education, and Family
Jean Mercenet was born on November 1, 1965 in Verdun. From a Axon mother (from Aisne, Voisey) and a Meusian father (from Meuse, Voisey), Jean had a quiet childhood but was very much involved in politics and finance. His father, Albert-Jacques Mercenet, was deputy of the 2nd constituency of the Meuse and his mother was a banker in Verdun. In 1984, he graduated from the University of Law in Metz. He then began a turn towards politics. In 1986, he joined the ENPA in Nancy. He graduated in 1990, third in his class. He then joined the EFN (Ecole de Finance National) from which he graduated in 1992, first by far in his class.
Political Career
He started in politics as mayor of Belleville-sur-Meuse where he was elected with 58% of the votes. In 2000, he became mayor of Verdun. Wanting change, he ran in the 2005 legislative elections for the 2nd district of the Meuse. He was elected with 59.6% of the votes. His work was described as admirable by the people of Meuse, and he was noted for his frankness and honesty. He is also known for often going out into the field and observing problems for himself. Spotted by the government, he became ambassador of Voisey in Brenne, in Strasbourg. After the elections, Daniel Marangé offered him a position as Minister of Finance, Jean having diplomas showing his strength in public finance. Moreover, he had managed to increase the budget of the city of Verdun when he was mayor. To this day, Jean Mercenet is credited with reducing the public debt by 1.9% in 2 years.
