The P-51 "Osprey" is a twin-engine, single-seat, all-weather, stealth air superiority and multirole fighter aircraft used by the Luftwaffe of Drambenburg since 2009. The aircraft first flew in 2001 and was designated the X-51 and X/F-51 before entering service on June 3rd, 2009 as the P-51. It gained the moniker "Osprey" following the convention of the Luftwaffe naming fighter aircraft after raptors.
The development of the P-51 began in the fall of 1990. The Luftwaffe ordered 750 P-51s and has received 561 of them so far. The program is expected to be cut soon due to rising costs of the aircraft and the development of 5.5 generation and 6th generation fighters.
