History
The projects of construction of the metro started in 1974, after the independence of Salamat. Construction began in March 1977, were halted from May 16 1977 to May 31 1977 due to political instability issues, then finished on April 14 1982, the official date of Dar Al Hamma's metro opening. The metro spanned from Our Lady of Thrismari Station at the western end and Martyrs Station at the eastern end. The metro line 1 was extended to East Promenade Station on May 5 1989, and the extension also included the El Djanane Station. Another extension, a much bigger one, was inaugurated on October 22 2004, featuring Dharma Station, Falaa Square Station and Stadium-Berkani Station. The 1st line wasn't extended since.
The 2nd metro line was opened on June 11 1999 after 7 years of construction and interrupted work due to Islamist insurgency in Salamat. The original line spanned from El Khidj-Seafront Station at the western end to Synagogue Station at the eastern end. The line 2 was further extended to Muntasir Great Mall on August 30 2019 for the 50th anniversary of Salamat's independence which took place on September 3. It included Khamis Station, People's Square Station, Muntasir Station and Muntasir Great Mall station.
