The PSD supports a social-democratic policy programme, including utility nationalisation, single-payer universal healthcare, the breakup of large conglomerates and the establishment of rent control in major cities. The actual support base of the party ranges from moderate social democrats adverse to Progress' willingness to cooperate with the right, to democratic socialists, including a small marxist element. The party covers a wide variety of views on foreign policy, with the ruling faction being supportive of multilateral cooperation but sceptical of globalisation; during the 2023 Marlos Volcano Scandal, Oscar Anderson regularly listened to the advice of interventionist advisor and diplomat Harris Skye. The Social Democratic Party (Basaquese: Partiya Sosyal Demokrat; PSD) is a social-democratic political party in Liberto-Ancapistan. It is one of Liberto-Ancapistan's 'secondary major parties', being the third largest in the House of Commons and Senate. Forming in 2022, it is the newest major party in Liberto-Ancapistan, and has participated in a single coalition government.
The party originated in the left-wing faction of Progress, which had formed a government with the centre-right Libertarian Party (Liberto-Ancapistan) after the 2020 general election. Several factors affected the eventual decision by certain members of the faction to leave Progress, including the party's rejection of single-payer healthcare, utility nationalisation and willingness to cooperate with the Libertarian Party for a second time in the lead up to the 2022 general election. Believing that the formation of a new party would force Progress to move to the left after the election, 92 members of the party formed the PSD in December 2022. This strategy proved a success, and despite significant losses the PSD was successful enough to provide Progress with a majority, leading to a coalition between both parties.
The 2022-2023 coalition proved short-lived, after PSD Vice-Chancellor and co-leader Oscar Anderson resigned in the aftermath of the Marlos Volcano Scandal, initiating the collapse of the agreement. After this event, the PSD rejected calls for a re-merger with Progress, and long-time activist Eliza Rand was selected as a new co-leader. In the 2024 election the PSD succeeded the Minarchist Coalition as the third-largest party in the House of Commons, a result replicated in the House of Asagi in 2025.
The ruling faction is also supportive of United Federation of Telrova (UFT) membership, though sceptical of further integration.
